Giving Back to Those Who Give:
Volunteer Appreciation Event
Whether it’s storytelling, weeding, painting or cleaning, our volunteers play a critical role in preserving and sharing Marshall’s legacy through Dodona Manor. These dedicated individuals devote hours of their time to the work of the Marshall Center, and we wanted to give a little back to them for giving so much to our work.

Early this month, our docent, maintenance and garden volunteers enjoyed a lovely catered lunch hosted by Chairman of the Board Steve Chapin. Executive Director Valérie Beaudoin and Docent Lead Bill Brooks recognized each volunteer by name for their work in the house and on the grounds of the place the Marshalls loved so well. As a small token of appreciation, we assembled gift bags with chocolates, branded mugs and a portrait of Dodona Manor painted by a local watercolor artist.

Volunteers, we salute you for your selfless service on behalf of one of America’s most selfless servants. Thank you for all you do!
Five-Star Character: The Next Edition
We’re excited to offer our next editions of Five-Star Character: The George C. Marshall Ethical Leadership Conference in January and February 2022. Help us spread the word by sharing our new promotional video, featuring interviews and footage from our inaugural conference in August.
Feeding The Community,
One Pound at a Time
Our garden volunteers have worked hard all year, and they have piles of produce to prove it. The vegetables they’ve harvested since starting this year’s garden in May amount to 700 pounds, almost all of which has been donated to Loudoun Hunger Relief. Thank you, volunteers!
We are offering a wide range of sponsorship opportunities to business owners for both of the events previewed below.

Attention: Veterans Day Commemoration 2021
Our 17th annual Veterans Day Commemoration will be held on the tree-shaded grounds of Dodona Manor on November 11 at 10:30 a.m.… and you’re invited! We are the proud hosts of the community collaboration among the Marshall Center, the Town of Leesburg and Loudoun County. Our event is focused on honoring military veterans for their service to our nation, with participation from our local VFW chapter, the Marine Corps League of Loudoun County, Mayor Kelly Burke and Chair Phyllis Randall.

We are thrilled to welcome Lieutenant General Bruce Crawford (U.S. Army, Ret.) as our keynote speaker. We’re also excited to host Veterans Moving Forward, a Dulles-based nonprofit organization specializing in providing service dogs and canine therapy services to veterans with physical and/or mental health challenges. Mark your calendars for this free event!
Veterans Day Non-Profit Sponsor Spotlight
Meet a couple of our Veterans Day Commemoration Non-Profit Partners: Veterans Moving Forward and Loudoun Therapeutic Riding. These incredible organizations offer military veterans completely free services with a focus on animal engagement.

Veterans Moving Forward provides service dogs and canine therapy services to veterans with physical and/or mental health challenges, at no cost to the veteran.

Loudoun Therapeutic Riding’s Horses for Heroes program is provided free of charge to veterans through the Wounded Warrior project. Veterans can ride, drive or work with horses at whatever level they are comfortable.

Come visit both organizations on November 11 during our Veterans Day Commemoration at Dodona Manor!
Holidays and History:
The Marshall Plan Tree Walk 2021
The tradition continues! Our Marshall Plan Tree Walk returns for a second year to the grounds of Dodona Manor, beginning with an evening tree lighting ceremony on December 4. This unique event combines the magic of the holidays with recognition of the 17 Marshall Plan countries. Seventeen trees, one for each country that participated in the Marshall Plan, will be decorated along the brick walk by the house for visitors to view and enjoy through the holiday season. Be sure to vote for your favorite tree when you visit!
