Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season for Christians. It happens 46 days before Easter Sunday and the day after Shrove Tuesday. Those who celebrate Ash Wednesday reflect, fast, repent and celebrate. The ashes represent death and repentance. Ash Wednesday reminds us the human mortality and the need for reconciliation with God. The use of ashes during spiritual occasions has ancient non-Christian roots. | |

International Mother Language Day has been an annual observance throughout the world since 2000.“Ekushey February”(21st February), or simply “Ekushey” (‘the 21st’ in Bangla), commemorates the day in 1952 when students of the University of Dhaka launched a nationwide protest. Bangladeshis celebrate this day by visiting the Shaheed Minar, a monument built in memory of the martyrs and its replicas to express their deep sorrow and pay their respects.
Bangladeshi students in the university have come together to honor their respects to the sacrificed souls for this day. They also sang a song which is important back in Bangladesh on this day. The students were joined by Prof. Kendall Goodrich (Chair of Marketing), Prof. Ahsan Mian (Mechanical and Materials Engineering) and Police officers from Department of Public Safety

UCIE Raises Base Scholarship
In the beginning weeks of February, the Wright State University study abroad and international student relations office raised the base scholarship for study abroad programs.Short-term, faculty-led programs have a scholarship increase from $350 to $600, whereas professor-led programs now offer up to $1,000. Furthermore, any student choosing to study abroad will receive $350 regardless of the duration of the program.
“We work very hard to make our programs as cheap as possible for students, and we understand that WSU students work very hard to find the funding for these programs, so we want to help as much as possible,” - Megan Trickler , Study Abroad Coordinator, UCIE.
