Healthy Resolutions That Are Easy To Keep
By: Rebecca Ohliger MSN, CRNP
The New Year is a time during which many of us set goals for ourselves, in our careers, relationships, and of course, our general health and wellness. Making resolutions is often the easy part, while following through with them can be a challenge. This year, let us try to make resolutions that are clear and attainable. For example, while goals such as “get healthier” or “lose weight” may be your ultimate resolution, they are pretty vague and don’t provide you with a gauge for you to track your progress. Instead, be clear with your goals - if you want to eat better, make a meal plan or consult with a nutritionist. Cut back on a specific processed food you don’t usually say no to. Eat more veggies. If you’d like to be more active, join a fitness class with a friend or vow to take a longer walk to work or home. Here are some other health and wellness resolutions to consider in the New Year:
  • Drink more water - aim for 64 ounces a day.
  • Practice good sleep hygiene - see my older article for more information on this!
  • Cut back on alcohol - limit your consumption to no more than 1 drink per day.
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator/escalator.
  • Engage in self care - take time for yourself and your hobbies, however that looks for you.
Urgent Care vs. Emergency Room
By: RWWC Management Team
It is after hours and you are experiencing health-related concerns. Your PCP is not available; you have two options: urgent care or emergency room. What is the difference and which one should you choose?

Simply put, the difference is the severity of the health problem. If the condition is life-threatening and your care may require rapid or advanced treatments, go to an emergency room. If you have a minor illness or injury that needs to be treated right away, but is not a true emergency, go to an urgent care.

At Rittenhouse Women’s Wellness Center, we encourage all of our patients to contact us if you are experiencing any type of health related issue. While in most cases we will recommend you come into our office to be evaluated, sometimes we will not be able to see you as quickly as an urgent care or an emergency room would. Even if we cannot be the ones to see you, we want to help you make a decision on what to do next.
