Aloha Friends and Neighbors,

We wanted to update you regarding our work at 1911 Ke‘eaumoku Street. Our goal for the immediate future continues to be clearing the property and creating a safe open area where students can play. We will then begin the process of engaging stakeholders and the community in long-term use planning.

Mahalo for your support as we continue to make progress. To date, we have:

  • Demolished all of the structures;
  • Disposed of approximately 80% of the demolition material;
  • Worked with soil remediation experts and continue to do so;
  • Cleared the sidewalk fronting the property of overgrowth and seeded it with new grass;
  • Met with area council member Carol Fukunaga to inform her of our immediate goal to clear and secure the land for play and our long-term plan to engage stakeholders in a strategic planning process.

Removal of debris has taken longer than expected due to poor weather over the winter break. We apologize for any disruptions this may be causing you. Of course, we aim to complete this phase of work as quickly and safely as possible. To accommodate the large trucks hauling away debris, we continue to block off parking directly in front of the property. Thank you for your patience.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tony Yee, Director of Operations, at ayee@hanahauoli.org or at 697-2633 anytime.

Sincerely,

Lia Woo
Head of School
