Message from the Provost
I’m delighted to welcome everyone to the fall 2021 semester at Western Kentucky University. To my faculty and staff colleagues, I’m grateful for your ongoing commitment and hard work to ensure the success and safety of our students. It’s an honor to begin the semester with you as provost. Since my start in the role on July 6th, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many members of our WKU community, and I look forward to meeting many more of you during the fall semester.
Nominations sought for Honorary Degree recipients
The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs invites the campus community to submit nominations for recipients of honorary degrees. Nominations may be made by students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, or friends of the University. For guidance, refer to the Policy on Honorary Degrees. Nomination deadline is Sept. 14.
Spotlight: Catherine Sheffield
WKU senior Catherine Sheffield, a Creative Writing major from Clarksville, Tennessee, studied in the United Kingdom this summer in the Harlaxton College four-week program, and she earned a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship to fund the trip.
WKU ROTC to host Yates Run
The WKU Army ROTC program will host its 11th Eric D. Yates Memorial Run on Sept. 15. The 5K Run and 2-Mile Walk will begin at 6 p.m. at Chaney’s Dairy Barn, 9191 Nashville Road. Yates, a 2008 WKU graduate from Rineyville, was killed in action Sept. 17, 2010, after an improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol in Afghanistan. Proceeds from the event benefit the 1LT Eric Yates Memorial Scholarship Fund. Registration for the run/walk is $20 in advance at www.wku.edu/rotc or $25 at the event.
