This Sunday, September 19th: One of our great joys is when we get to pray for expectant parents. In this case, we are praying for Billy and Meredith Ferguson as they welcome their first child in November. “May this time of pregnancy be for Billy and Meredith a time of drawing nearer to you and to one another.” |

FALL FESTIVAL
PLANNING MEETING:

Fall is approaching! Holy Comforter will host a Fall Festival Saturday, October 23rd from 10am-1pm. Anyone interested in volunteering please join us for a planning meeting directly after church this Sunday, September 19th. We are also looking for anyone interested in donating baked goods for a bake sale, tents, and other materials to be used in the Fall Festival!

CONFIRMATION CLASSES
BEGIN THIS SUNDAY
|
|
Confirmation classes are for those who wish to learn more about the Episcopal Church with an eye on being confirmed on Sunday, November 7. Confirmation is the sacrament by which a person officially joins the Episcopal Church.
Classes are six weeks and will be held on Sundays from 5pm—6pm starting this Sunday, September 19. We meet in person upstairs in the church. You must be 15 years old or older to be confirmed. Sign up for classes with the link below. In preparation, order Jesus was an Episcopalian by Chris Yaw from Amazon here. It’s a lighthearted introduction to our faith.

Volunteers needed to help clean up the church grounds. Bring gloves, rakes, pitch forks, wheelbarrow, pruners and loppers. We will be pruning all the shrubbery around the church and spreading mulch in the playground. |

Do you need some outdoor work done at your home?

After church on Sunday, September 26 our youth will be offering a 'Helping Hands Afternoon' for our parishioners. We are looking for outdoor, manageable projects for our Youth like: weeding, blowing walks and driveways, mowing grass, minor pruning, etc.

On Sunday, September 26 at 10:30am, we will have our annual Celebration of Creation and Blessing of the Animals. Bring your well behaved pets to church that day—that’s right—you can bring your pets to church. Dogs on leashes and cats in carriers. Following the service you can receive individual blessings for your animals. |

Our drive through food drive is Saturday, October 2 from 10am—noon. Bring non-perishable food - canned veggies and meats, crackers, cereal, etc.

ABOUT OUR FOOD COLLECTIONS
|
|
Our church has long had a heart for those who go hungry in our area. We are involved in two separate food collections. Each of these collections serves a different population.
The first is the weekly collection of non-perishable goods placed in the red wagon by the front door. That is designated for Columbia County Cares (CCC). Each month a representative from CCC picks up that food to share with the needy. We also support them with a small financial gift each month.
The second food collection is every other month for 143 Ministries. That is our Drive Through Food Drive. For the food drive, just bring your donations on the day of the event. Don't leave any food by the door prior to the collection. Financial donations for 143 Ministries are also accepted.

Sunday, October 3rd at 10:30am
Join us for a Jazz Mass featuring Wycliffe Gordon, Travis Shaw, Robbie Jarrell, Bill James, Brad Green, and others. The jazz mass will take place during our worship service and feature sacred tunes that are popular for use in jazz styles, such as "His Eye Is On the Sparrow," "Just A Closer Walk With Thee," and other favorites. Thank you to Linda Scales for her help in putting this together!

The Book Club meets Wednesday, October 13 at 10:00am at the church. Our book for October is Living Faith by Jimmy Carter.
“For President Carter, faith finds its deepest expression in a life of compassion, reconciliation, and service to others. Living Faith is filled with stories of the people who have touched his life”.

SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM
|
|
The Sacrament of Holy Baptism will be offered on November 7 during the bishop’s visitation. This is not just for infants and children who have not been baptized but for adults as well. If you would like to be baptized, please contact Church Administrator Vivian Vaiden at 706-210-1133. |

We have started planning our fall youth activities and here's our schedule of events:
9/18 Church Grounds Cleanup @ Holy Comforter (8am-noon; drop-in as available) – Youth will work together with other parishioners to prepare the church grounds for the fall/winter
9/26 Helping Hands @ various locations (afternoon) – Youth will work as a group to assist church parishioners who may need an extra hand with yard work and/or other outdoor chores
10/2 Food Drive @ Holy Comforter (10am-12pm) – Youth will help receive, organize, and pack up food donations
10/23 Fall Festival @ Holy Comforter – Youth will run a photo booth (We will provide a backdrop, please consider donating homemade or store-bought props)
11/7 All Saints Sunday @ Holy Comforter – Rt. Rev. Frank Logue will be visiting Holy Comforter and offering the Sacrament of Confirmation. This sacrament is for those who wish to formally join the Episcopal church. For young people who have been baptized, this is also the occasion to make the promises made on their behalf at baptism their own. Confirmation is for those 15 years old and older. Classes start September 19th. Sign up here or in the church foyer.
11/17 Pumpkin Carving at St. Bartholomew's, 471 W. Martintown Rd, North Augusta; from 5pm - 7pm; they will be serving dinner and then carving.
12/5 Christmas Event @ Good Shepherd (4:30pm-7:00pm) – St. Nick’s gift exchange and gingerbread house build off

Last year we partnered with a group in South Carolina, Hearts for Inmates, to send a Christmas card to every inmate in Leath Correctional Facility. Many of these women don’t receive any mail let alone a card at Christmas. Please help us see that every woman there receives one again this year.
A container will be placed in the foyer of the church to hold these cards as we collect them. If you would like to participate in this project, please bring your cards with envelopes to Holy Comforter and place them in the container. Unused cards from previous years or new cards can be donated. The only restriction is that they cannot have any glitter or things glued to the cards either on the inside or outside. The inmates at Leath come from every faith so we can use cards with a simple Happy Holidays message as well as those that say Merry Christmas.
After the cards have been collected a group of Holy Comforter members will write a short message inside the cards before they are delivered to the prison. The warden has graciously agreed to have them distributed to each inmate during the holiday season between Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you would like to help with the signing of the cards, please send me an email and I’ll contact you when we are ready to begin.

Holy Comforter will offer its second pilgrimage to the Holy Land next year, led by the rector, Cynthia Taylor along with The Rev. Donald Fishburne. May 11-20, 2022. This pilgrimage is not just for our church but for anyone who wants to experience the spiritual trip of a lifetime. We will prayerfully visit The Galilee, including Magdala, Nazareth, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and more. If you wish, you can take an optional extension to Petra and other sites. Pick up a brochure in the foyer. Sign up now as space is limited. |

Preparing for Sunday is a tool to help us prepare for Sunday worship by engaging in the assigned lessons from Scripture.
It includes an overview, a lesson introduction, a reflection, and a prayer starter. It is available on our website here.
