Superintendent's Message
A Message from Superintendent Layton
All sports were participating this week! It was great to watch some volleyball, football and our cross country teams running. It reminds us that we are blessed in Texas to have our students participating! Good luck to all of our Tiger teams this week. Homecoming will be here before we know it.
After visiting all the campuses this week, it was clear what an excellent job our staff and students are doing. It is very encouraging to witness the educational process happening in such a different environment. Staff and students are doing an excellent job of moving forward and making this a great place to go to school. Thanks to everyone for going above and beyond. These conditions are not what we are accustomed to, but everyone is doing the work to make it great. 83% of our students are on campuses for instruction, and we look forward to that number increasing. Please get the forms back to the campuses next week for the desired mode of instruction.
We also wanted to thank all of the parents, students, and staff for filling out the questionnaire at the start of each week; this cumulative effort helps everyone stay safe! Please keep this up and remember, if your student is sick or answers yes to any questions, please keep them home. We cannot stress enough how vital the questionnaire is. Please remember to wash your hands, social distance, and wear a mask as we move forward.
Like all challenges in life, "This too shall pass."
It is always a great day to be a Tiger!

Board Member Jerry Spiva shared this idea with us. What a great way for the employees of MISD to receive the thanks they deserve!

Flexibility
The end of the 1st 6-weeks grading period is quickly approaching. With that comes several items. Students need to be keenly aware of their grades as it could affect their eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities.

The window for declaring whether your child will be learning face-to-face or remotely for the 2nd 6-weeks is open CLICK HERE FOR THE LINK TO PARENT COMMITMENT FORM. Students choosing to learn remotely will be held to the same requirements of those learning face-to-face which means they should be working online at least 4 hours per day but probably longer to be able to complete assignments for all their classes.

News on the athletic side is we have moved to an online ticket sales program. To purchase tickets for home games, you can go to www.malakoffisd.org and click on the Online Ticket Sales link. Remember, the UIL requires spectators to wear masks. It is for the safety of the athletes who are performing and the people around you.

Better Together
Great Things Happening at MES

Things are rocking along at MES!!

Kinder thru 5th grade students just completed their beginning of the year diagnostics, and next week 4th and 5th grade students will take their BOY Assessment to determine what they have retained from last year so we can shrink the gap to help our students be more successful!

The end of the first six weeks is quickly upon us. Parent commitment forms are due back if you wish to change your child’s instructional setting. All changes will happen on September 21st. We hope to get as many students back on campus as possible.

Keep your heads up and stay positive and patient! We are Malakoff, and we will overcome any challenges!
