DC CFAR Members Participating in Virtual 2021 National CFAR Meetings
|
The DC CFAR is pleased to be participating in the following sessions of the virtual 25th Annual National CFAR Meetings hosted by the Penn CFAR on November 2-5.
- The National CFAR CAB Coalition (N3C) and Penn CFAR Community Symposium on November 2nd will feature DC CFAR Community Coordinator and CPC Chair Ms. Marcia Ellis (DC CFAR) who will moderate a break-out group on Women and HIV. CPC Member and Drug User Health SIG Community Co-lead Mr. George Kerr III (GIII Associates) will moderate a break-out group on Faith-Based Initiatives.
- The virtual poster session on November 3rd will host a number of Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) research projects and have an interactive Q&A session. The poster session will include DC CFAR Pilot Award Recipient, Dr. Sarah Calabrese (GW) on "Implications of Belief in Undetectable=Untransmittable for HIV Transmission Worry, Sexual Openness and Sexual Wellbeing Among MSM with Undetectable HIV" and CFAR EHE Supplement Recipient, Dr. Brittani Saafir-Callaway (DC Health) on "Comparing Perspectives of Individuals and HIV Service Providers in response to Health Department HIV Surveillance-Based Initiatives".
- The CFAR Scientific Symposium on November 4th will feature EHE SWG Director Dr. Amanda Castel (GW) on "The Epidemiology of HIV in the Mid-Atlantic Region" and Dr. Calabrase will present her abstract described above.

In case you missed it, on Thursday, October 21st the GW student-led organization, Milken por la Salud hosted a discussion on "To Latinx or not to Latinx: A question of gender inclusivity versus gender neutrality" led by DC CFAR Investigator Dr. Ana Maria del Río-González (GW). This event was co-sponsored by the DC CFAR and the GWU Latino Health Research Center. Unfortunately, there were some inappropriate comments in the chat and that were unable to remove in the recording. Are you planning on submitting an abstract for the upcoming CROI 2022 Conference on February 12-16, 2022? The DC CFAR Clinical and Population Sciences (CPS) Core is prepared to assist you. If you are interested in having your abstract reviewed by the CPS Core, please email your abstract, no later than one week prior to the conference submission deadline to CPS Core Director, Dr. Seble Kassaye.
Additionally, the Core will host practice sessions for CROI poster or oral presentations. Practice sessions must be scheduled at least two weeks prior to the scheduled conference presentation. To schedule a practice session please email the CPS Core director with your request.

DC CFAR Basic Sciences Core Co-Directors Drs. Alberto Bosque and Sanjay Maggirwar Receive New T32 Award
|
The investigators seek to prepare the next generation of biomedical researchers using a predoctoral training program with "a dual mentored research project, education in specific skillsets, research career development and exposure to the needs of communities at risk". This project joins faculty from multiple GW departments and schools with the goal to create collaborative training in cross-cutting high-priority areas of HIV research. Two New Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunities at UMD
Whitman Walker Health is recruiting a Research Data Analyst to serve as a key management lead and technical expert within the Research department, overseeing a team of specialized data staff and working collaboratively to develop and oversee data-related infrastructure and projects.
The CFAR Network of Integrated Clinical Systems (CNICS) released an RFA for funding up to $15K Direct Costs for 1 year. Applications are due December 1.
The Department of Health Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University is recruiting applications for a tenure-track appointment. The ideal candidate for this position will have earned a doctorate in public health or in a health-related field while possessing in-depth knowledge in infectious disease or epidemiology. The Department is especially interested in candidates with expertise in health equity or community-based health. Applications are due November 1.
The Microbicide Branch of the Research Division in the Office of HIV/AIDS at USAID is hiring a Sr. Technical Advisor - Microbicide Research & Development. The candidate will support USAID’s further development and implementation of new biomedical HIV prevention technologies.
The Journal of the International AIDS Society (JIAS) is requesting abstracts for a new Supplement on “Ageing with HIV” to be published in October 2022. Abstracts are due December 1.
