The Village of Elk Rapids is putting together its first Citizens Academy! This Academy is designed for anyone who lives or works in the Village. Presented by the Village Council and Staff, it is an opportunity to learn about how things work around town while improving communication, access, and understanding. Participate because you are curious or to better prepare for a citizen leadership role. Informed citizens help shape the future of Elk Rapids. SEEKING APPLICATIONS FOR OPENING ON THE ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
The Village of Elk Rapids currently has a vacancy on the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA). The ZBA handles all appeals, interpretations, variances, and exceptions to the Zoning and Unified Development Code. Those interested in serving their community on this board must be a Village resident. Applications are available on the document center at www.elkrapids.org or at the Government Center. Completed applications should be submitted to kszczypka@elkrapids.org. Applications to fill this seat are due Wednesday, May 11, 2022, for Council consideration and appointment at the May 16, 2022, regular meeting.

A Torch Lake Township Public Hearing is scheduled for May 11, 2022, at 7 pm to consider the completed application submitted by Dollar General for the parcel listed at 5470 North US 31 Central Lake, Mi. 49622. This meeting will be live-streamed via YouTube.
Citizens are invited to attend the hearing to provide input for the commission's deliberations.

Story Time With Kate!!!
In-person story-time is back at the Library! Kate, our new Program Coordinator, will be holding outdoor story-time on Fridays, beginning  June 3rd, at 10:30 am. This story-time is designed for children ages 0-5 and will include books, a nature craft, snacks, and more. There will be activities for older siblings as well, focusing on STEM with a tie-in to nature. As we work on perfecting our indoor space, story-time will be held outside, so please dress for the weather.

NMC Mushrooms of Spring

Join us for a naturalist-led fungus foray in search of morels and other interesting fungi. Learn about the famous and delicious morels that are a joy to find during this yearly spring ritual, and tips and tricks to identify the other mushrooms of Michigan. Spring Stream Monitoring
Saturday, May 14 - 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
New and seasoned volunteers of all ages are invited to join us as we collect data as part of our biannual stream monitoring program. This year, teams will be collecting habitat data and macroinvertebrates (creek "bugs") at four sites along Finch Creek and then will return to the Grass River Center to sort through their critter samples. Pre-registration is required. Email Emily@grassriver.org.
Spring Mushroom Hunt 
Sunday May 15, 2022 - 1:00pm (1.5 hrs), $10 per person 
Morels, fiddleheads, and tasty spring edibles are cropping up all over. We will search for morels and other spring fungi along with a naturalist from Grass River. We're hoping for a good year, so come join us!
