Sea King Sunday Update

Dear Sea King Families,

Last night, PVHS celebrated our Winter Formal at Peterson Automotive Museum. It was a beautiful venue for our annual formal event. There was so much for our Sea Kings to see and do at the museum. In addition to the amazing car exhibits, the event had activities such as driving simulators, game tables, food buffets, karaoke, candy and dessert buffets, and a 360 photo booth. I always love seeing our kids all dressed up and enjoying this event with friends. These are the moments that make for special high school memories.

I do want to take a moment to recognize and thank the PVHS teachers, staff, and volunteers that attended the event last night along with our administrative team. These types of activities would not happen if not for their dedication.

Chloe Schoefeld, Cynthia Mendicino, Allyson Klabe,

Shellie Parkinson, Ashley Brockman, Geraldine Machi,

Bob Watt, Elena Stewart, Greg Clark, Daniel Timmerman,

Olivia Carrasquillo, and Patty Camp

A special thank you goes out to our ASB students for their planning of the event. They are led by our ASB director, Jama Maxfield, who oversees the organization and details of these events, even riding our PVHS charter bus last night so we could provide transportation to our event. Mrs. Maxfield goes above and beyond for PVHS so if you see her on campus, please give her a thank you for all she does to make our kids' high school experience special.

I hope you enjoy your Sunday! See you tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Dr. Trista Ramirez

Principal

PVHS PVIT VEX Robotics Team Tournament Champions; Punch Ticket to California State Championship!

Congratulation to PVIT’s VEX Robotics Team for winning Tournament Champion and Skills Champion this weekend in the Lancers High School tournament in Simi Valley.  The thousands of hours cumulatively spent starting last May to design, build, and test the robot and write software paid off as the team competed with 32 other teams from all over Southern California.

Winning the tournament qualifies this experienced team for the California State Championships, in the most competitive state for VEX. Congratulations to Elijah Huang, Ransom Liu, Jason Lee, and Kylie Welcher (not pictured). A special shout-out goes to Ransom for his incredible programming talent to win the Skills award, requiring the robot to score the maximum points in 1 minute, running completely autonomously, only controlled by Ransom’s software.  A second PVIT VEX team finished the qualifying round in 3rd place with a 6-0-0 record.

We wish the other two VEX teams good luck as they compete over the next two weeks to try to also qualify for States!

PVHS Korean program, Mrs Chang’s class celebrated ‘Seolnal’, the Korean New Year’s Day (Lunar New Year) on January 20th. The students learned about ‘Seolnal’ and experienced Korean culture by eating ‘Tteokguk' (rice cake soup) and playing traditional board game ‘Yut Nori’.

새해 복 많이 받으세요! (Happy New Year!)

Emma Post and Marley, Equestrian Champions!

Sea King junior, Emma Post has had a remarkable year! Emma and her 13-year-old Hanoverian horse, Won Love, or Marley as he is known around the barn, have officially been named Horse of the Year by the United States Equestrian Association for 2022 in the 3’3” Large Junior Hunter U15 division. Emma and Marley have also been named the Horse of the Year by the USHJA for Zone 10, which includes California and Nevada.

Emma competed in California most of the year while also traveling to the Capital Challenge in Maryland, the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Pennsylvania, and the National Horse Show in Kentucky. She finished her travels by winning the 3’3” Junior Hunter National Championship in Las Vegas at the USHJA National Championships in November. Throughout 2022, Emma competed in 20 shows with amazing consistency, from winning show Championship nine times and being Reserve Champion four times in her division.

Emma is trained by Judy Martin here locally at Highland Farms at Palos Verdes Stables and with Michael and Christa Endicott of Pegasus Show Stables in Rancho Santa Fe, California.

Emma’s parents, John and Colleen are very proud of their daughter. John says, “Watching Emma ride is one of my favorite things. I love horses and the energy at horse shows. These horses are special, and they are truly amazing athletes. Marley and Emma have a very special bond, and we are very proud of them both.” Colleen says, “Emma is an eloquent rider. She makes it look so effortless, but it is really a lot of hard work, both physically and mentally.

PVHS is very proud of Emma and Marley as well!! Congratulations Emma!

PVPUSD Parent/Student/Employee LCAP Survey

We Want To Hear From You!

Annually, the District conducts a survey to gather information from a variety of educational partners regarding the PVPUSD learning environment that contributes to the production of high academic achievement levels for all students.

This LCAP survey is anonymous, and the collective results will be shared during Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) meetings to guide local priority development, actions, expenditures, and services related to the conditions of learning, achievement outcomes, safety, and educational partner engagement. We value each respondent, and it is important that we get a representative sample from our community.

We have separated the surveys into categories which include Parent/Guardian, Employees (certificated and classified), Elementary Students (grades 3-5), and Secondary Students (grades 6-12). Please click on the link applicable to you to complete the survey(s) and/or to assist your student in completing the survey.
