Supporting Our Seawolves’ Health and Wellness: Student Health Services
At Student Health Services, the staff of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, health educators, laboratory techs, and pharmacists are dedicated to providing students with quality, cost-effective medical care, and the services necessary to optimize preventative health and wellness.
Did you know that most of these services are included as part of the Health and Counseling broad based fee for all currently enrolled Stony Brook students?
Our services are designed to meet the health needs of all students. The medical care can range from primary care, an on-site pharmacy able to fill most prescriptions, free over-the-counter medication for students, vaccinations, including vaccines for overseas travel, as well as a full range of laboratory services.

How to Support Your Student with a Healthy Lifestyle
“Make sure you get all of your homework done! Your academics are your number one priority!” I’m guessing we have all used comments such as these to remind our students about their educational goals. We want them to succeed with their coursework at Stony Brook University, but staying healthy and finding balance in life are also key components of being a successful college student (and beyond). As family members, it is important that we model a healthy lifestyle and have direct conversations about what that means.
Students who are able to eat healthy, exercise, rest well and find some time for fun will be able to sustain the brainpower and energy needed for the rigor of study at Stony Brook. We often see students grabbing fast food or staying up all night cramming for exams, and while some of that is part of the college experience, these are not the habits on which to build a strong academic foundation.
When speaking with your student, take some time to gently sprinkle them with ideas about healthy food options, ways to commit to wellness on campus and remind them that sleep is necessary for good brain health! As family members, your guidance on building healthy, lifelong rituals for health and wellness will be another reminder that your students are loved and supported by you.
