Mack Memo ~ Parent Newsletter
11/3/2020
Jennifer Smith, Principal

Dear Families,

It was a BEARY good week last week - full of books, furry friends, and fun characters! Thank you to all for making the week's event successful.

A special thank you to Laurie Zundel, our author, who shared her stories and gave the students an inside look at her writing process. Book order forms were sent home last week should you like to order any of her books. Also, please indicate on the order form if you would like the books autographed. Orders are due by Friday, 11/6. If you are paying with a check, please make them payable to "My Travel Friends."

Last week many of our students and classes had "read-ins." Students came to school in comfy PJs and brought a stuffed animal to class for company.

We enjoyed our B.E.A.R. Week with your wonderful children and hope it sparked a new or continued interest in reading!

NO SCHOOL

As a reminder, there will be no school on Wednesday, 11/11 in observation of Veterans Day.
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 ESV

As we enter a season of gratitude, we would be remiss if we did not express our heartfelt thanks to you for partnering with us throughout the school year thus far. You have demonstrated a commitment to helping keep our staff and students healthy which allows us to keep our school doors open. We've noticed, so thank you for your cooperation in completing the Magnus Health app daily.

Starting today and through Monday, 11/9, students can drop off extra candy in their classrooms or outside the front office.

This is a great way for students to experience first hand, the the gift of their giving is a blessing to many, specifically, deployed troops, veterans, and first responders who are serving our communities.
Q: What kind of candy can you donate?

A: Individually wrapped, fun- or bite-sized candy is accepted. No powdered candy, unwrapped, or homemade items

Q: Can I donate chocolate?

A. Yes! Chocolate candy is being accepted this year.
Outside Food

Given the recent rise in COVID-19 cases in Western Washington, we need to be extra diligent in our efforts to minimize transmission in every possible way. Effective immediately, we will ask that no homemade or store-bought "extra" food is brought to school. The only outside food allowed in the classroom will be what the students bring for lunch and snack. Thank you for your understanding and partnership to keep our campus open.
Attendance/Front Office: (425) 485-1824

Thank you for keeping us informed of your child's absence, late arrival or early release. If your child will be absent, please email mackoffice@bellevuechristian.org and your child's teacher and provide a reason for the absence. This helps us monitor the overall health of our student body. For planned absences two or more consecutive days, please complete a Planned Absence Form in the Parent Portal of our website or pick up a form from our school office.

Preschool Highlights

Pumpkin Week in Preschool!

Pumpkins have been on the menu in preschool this week, in ways delicious, artistic, scientific, and just plain fun!

There was more pumpkin seed digging in Mrs. Underhill’s class, as well as the sensory experience of hammering golf tees into pumpkins!

Mrs. Schroeder’s class continued last week’s focus on pumpkins, while adding in some beautiful fall leaf printing and learning about what animals like squirrels do in the autumn.

After making savory pumpkin soup last week, this week Mrs. Kaskes’s class made pumpkin cookies at the sensory table. They also created all sorts of pumpkin art, including making pumpkin patch pictures with markers and thumb prints and assembling collages by cutting out pumpkins from paper they had painted the day before.
After picking a pumpkin from Mack’s own pumpkin patch last week, this week Mrs. Wasson’s classes scooped and separated pumpkin seeds, counted pumpkins, and worked on their fine motor skills by cutting pumpkin slime.
