A Message from Our President

To the Carondelet Community -

“When women succeed, the world succeeds.” March is Women’s History Month, and as we celebrate the incredible accomplishments of women throughout history, it is also a time for us to reflect and show gratitude for the transformative experience provided by an all-girls education. At Carondelet, we know that when young women are given the resources, support, and spaces they deserve, they will flourish. I am grateful each and every day for the incredible sisterhood that is palpable on our campus, and for the adults who are committed to creating an environment where our young women have the latitude to explore, take risks, and dream big. Our students will change the world through fierce empathy and a courageous spirit. We honor and celebrate their journey.

Help us commemorate International Women’s Day, March 8, by participating in Carondelet’s Giving Day! Our collective participation helps share the heart of Carondelet by creating limitless opportunities for our young women. Please visit Carondelet Giving Day to join us.

This Friday we celebrate the creativity of student filmmakers in our Winton Arts Filmfest. Students from Carondelet, De La Salle, and East Bay middle schools were all invited to participate. We look forward to hearing the results next week! We will also be kicking off Sisterhood Week in the Amp during the Blunch schedule by honoring our first award winners for Heart, Faith, and Courage.

Junior Prom is Saturday, March 11, at The Overlook in Downtown Oakland. If you have any questions regarding guest passes or tickets reach out to Maggie Lettire. We hope all of our students have a magical night!

Congratulations to our varsity soccer and basketball teams who both had great showings in NorCal playoffs. The Cougars made it to the top level of girls high school soccer in the Division 1 NorCal championship game yesterday. The Cougars fought a tough battle against St. Francis Mountain View, but ultimately fell 1-0. St Francis Mountain View is now ranked #2 in California, and the Cougars are ranked #4. We are so proud of our amazing student-athletes both on and off the field.

We thank you for your partnership as we collectively pave the way for our young women. Blessings for a wonderful week ahead.

In Unifying Love,

Jess Mix '99

President

Reminders + Requests

Upcoming: Feast of St. Joseph and Sisterhood Week

We have begun the long season of Lenten prayer, fasting, and giving. As we continue through Lent, we are also preparing to celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph and Sisterhood Week March 13 - 17, 2023. All students are asked to wear red on Friday, March 10 for the assembly. The 5th-period classes with the most people wearing red will receive pizza for lunch immediately after the event!

Uniform Enforcement

Upholding our uniform policy is a top priority this year. Students who are out of uniform (and have already received multiple uniform warnings this year) will now be issued a detention to be served that afternoon. The strategies we have implemented this year have not been working for some of our students so we feel the need to increase consequences for repeat offenders. Thank you in advance for your support of our uniform policy.

Closed Campus, No Food Delivery

A reminder that per our student handbook, for the security of our students during the school day, Carondelet High School is a closed campus. This means food delivery services are not allowed on campus and will be confiscated.

Carondelet Giving Day is this Week!

Giving Day is Wednesday, March 8

This Wednesday, March 8 share your heart with our students on International Women’s Day. This year we have a cohort of generous donors who will match every $1 donated, so all gifts will have 2x the impact! The class with the highest participation wins a pizza celebration.

Make your early bird gift now and receive TWO heart of Carondelet water bottle stickers.

Thank you in advance for your partnership and support.

Campus Ministry

Lenten Project Advocacy Day

On Friday, Spiritual Life Council hosted our Lenten Project Advocacy Day, which provided students with opportunities to learn about the global refugee crisis, explore how our community will try to offer relief during Lent, and participate in advocacy around the topic. Check out the organization we are partnering with to raise awareness, money, and donations throughout Lent: World Relief Sacramento. Our drive for household items will begin on March 20 - stay tuned for more details next week!

National Drug and Alcohol Abuse Awareness

March Drug and Alcohol Abuse Awareness and Prevention Programming

Throughout the month of March, Carondelet will offer a variety of programming targeted at educating students on drug and alcohol abuse prevention. Lessons in biology, anatomy, and physiology classes will investigate the impact of drugs on the brain. The Cannon Wellness Center will offer substance abuse prevention programming (details and how to attend will be publicized on Schoology).

Parent Education Night with Debbie Berndt

Get up-to-date on the latest in substance science and understanding around adolescent brain development. Substance use disorder is now understood to be a childhood-onset disease. All substance use is related among young users, and mental health is profoundly affected by this use. The overdose crisis in our country is fueled by it, as well as real challenges in the illicit drug trade. It is important for parents to be aware about these issues and to know some strategies for countering the effects in case their child is ever affected. Especially since current research also proves parent influence is one of the most important protective factors when it comes to underage substance use. This will take place on March 14 at 6:30 PM in the Jean Hofmann Center for Innovation. RSVP Here.
