Testing is a crucial step in the fight against COVID-19, and many different types of tests are available at this time. Each type of test has a different method for gathering the specimen, which could be a swab at the start of the nostrils, the middle of the nose/throat, or the very back of the nose. Once you test positive, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) does not recommend additional testing for at least 3 months from when your first symptoms developed. If you have new onset of symptoms before 3 months or are immunocompromised, talk to your doctor about additional testing. More info on what to if you tested positive for COVID-19.

How to Protect Yourself from COVID-19
- Wear a mask.
- Stay at least 6 feet apart from people you do not live with.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and after going to the bathroom, blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
- If you do not have soap and water, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Do not attend gatherings with people you do not live with.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Cough or sneeze into an elbow if no tissue is available. Wash your hands.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household disinfectant cleaning spray or wipe.
