We are all looking forward to the day when our children under 12 are also eligible to get the vaccine, which hopefully will be in coming weeks. In the meantime we can do our part by wearing a mask inside public buildings and social distancing. Stay safe everyone and please share this information with friends and neighbors who may be eligible for the booster.

Respectfully,
Walter

Lord and Lady Fairfax Honorees for 2021
Yesterday evening I had the honor of recognizing the 2021 Hunter Mill District Lord and Lady Fairfax representatives and familiar faces to many in our community, Brenda Irons-LeCesne and Alvarez LeCesne, Jr.

The tradition of honoring Lord and Lady Fairfax began in 1984 as a way to recognize the outstanding residents of Fairfax County. Each year, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors selects two individuals from each district who have demonstrated exceptional volunteer service, heroism, or other special accomplishments to receive the award.

Since moving to Reston in 1977 both Brenda and Alvarez have been engaged and accomplished members of the community. Brenda has given her time and talents to many community and service organizations that focus on providing resources and activities designed to engage the African American community. Her past leadership roles includes a stint on Reston Community Center Board of Governors, and she continues to remain active with the Reston Links, AKA, the African American Women’s Book Club, Heritage Fellowship Church, Reston-Dulles Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Reston Rubies and The Uplanders. Alvarez is also an active member of the community serving as a manager and volunteer with nonprofit organizations, and was the first Executive Director for the Emerging Scholars Program where he still serves as a board member. Currently, he is a member of the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan Task Force for Reston and serves on boards of the Herndon Rotary Club and Reston USE. He is also co-chair of the Fairfax County Police Department Chief’s Council on Diversity Recruiting.

Congratulations to you both!
