Arts & Cultural Alliance of Newport County's 
Artist Award Application due March 15

The Arts & Cultural Alliance of Newport County (ACA) announces the March 15, 2020, 11:59 pm deadline for the Artist Awards, in support of Newport County artists and art projects that benefit our community.

Artist Awards of up to $500 support arts projects throughout Newport County. Through these awards, ACA champions exciting and interesting arts activities and events presented in and for the Newport County community.

Past recipients of the award have been the Newport String Project, the Newport Children's Theatre, ali kenner brodsky & co. and Out of the Box Studio & Gallery.

Artists of all backgrounds, identities, and artistic disciplines-including visual arts (illustration, graphic design, multimedia), performing arts (dance, music, theatre), literary arts (creative writing, poetry), and any other traditional or emerging field-residing in and/or offering artistic programs to any of the six Newport County communities (Jamestown, Little Compton, Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth, Tiverton) are strongly encouraged to apply. The Arts & Cultural Alliance especially encourages individual artists working alone or in collaboration to apply for support of their projects that enhance and uplift the Newport County community. Applicants must be a member of ACA.

A fundraiser for the restoration of the St. John's 1894 Hook & Hastings pipe organ


Opening with a comedy short starring Buster Keaton, this unique concert moves on to the feature-length original 1923 silent film version of Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, with live organ accompaniment improvised by the spectacular silent film artist Peter Krasinski of Boston. 

As part of the film's "soundtrack," the Professional Choristers of The Choir School of Newport County will sing pieces written by past musicians at Notre Dame inserted at appropriate scenes, and the church's tower bells will be rung to dramatic effect.

Newport County Youth Chorus' "Music From Around the World" 6-week program


The Newport County Youth Chorus is welcoming singers in grades 2 through 4 to join our next six-week program called "Music From Around the World". It is free to participate and no audition is necessary -- just a love of singing! Classes begin the week of March 2. Newport County Youth Chorus' "Middle School Ensemble"


The Newport County Youth Chorus is welcoming singers to join a new Middle School Ensemble class for students in grades 5 - 8 with unchanged voices that will be offered in Newport this spring. Join us for classic nursery rhymes recounted by Mother Goose and playfully brought to life by Island Moving Company's own dancers.

See magical performances of Humpty Dumpty, Miss Muffet, Jack and Jill, and Sing a Song of Sixpence. You may get a chance to dance with the famous Old Woman who lived in a Shoe and there will be photo opportunities with the characters.
