January 2023

Dear Residents & Community Members,

As January comes to a close, we wait in anticipation of whether or not our furry friend will see his shadow this week. While the lack of winter weather certainly isn't pleasing to snow enthusiasts, we're fairly certain many are rooting for an early Spring! Speaking of Spring, this monthly update includes a "Save the Date" for events in the upcoming months including Monroe Clean Sweep and the Town of Monroe Food Truck Festival. In the meantime, be sure to check out the Orange County Tourism Event Calendar for plenty of ways to keep busy in the upcoming weeks.

Some of you may have had the chance to attend the January 9th Town Board Meeting during which time a grant opportunity was discussed for restoration efforts related to the Stone Barn at Faber Farm. Read on in this month's update for insight to the history of this property and the measures the town is taking to preserve it. The town continues to seek funding opportunities that are consistent with our goal of preserving and improving our resources.

Stay tuned for more details as we plan to host the 2nd Annual Monroe Open House at Monroe Town Hall once again. This event provides a valuable opportunity for our residents to learn more about our community, meet our first responders, and find answers to frequently asked questions. With representation from the Town of Monroe, Village of Monroe and Village of Harriman, this is truly an informative evening and is recommended for both new and long-time residents to attend.

As we look ahead, there are many exciting initiatives in the works for our residents including the premiere of our Pickleball Courts at Mombasha Park this Spring as well as a Community Garden that is in the initial research and planning phase. We will be sure to communicate updates on these projects as they progress.

Be well,

Tony Cardone

Supervisor, Town of Monroe

Restoring a Piece of Monroe's History

The Town of Monroe recently submitted an application for funding available through the Restore NY Grant with the hope of restoring a piece of Monroe's history. The Stone Barn at Faber Farmhouse was constructed circa 1933 and is located at 105 - 109 Berry Road. The Faber family owned the barn and surrounding property until 2004, when the Town of Monroe purchased the property. If awarded this grant, the town will focus its initial efforts on the rehabilitation of the barn including basic structural stabilization and preservation of the main stone barn. Plans to further renovate the space to be utilized as a multi-purpose community event space will be addressed with future grant funding opportunities.
