A Message from the Pandemic Response Team

Just a reminder, there are no classes next week, so no need to fill out the Daily Healthy Assessment. On Monday, November 30, we ask that you resume submission of the DHA by 7:15 a.m.
On behalf of the MPH faculty and staff, we wish you a healthy and happy Thanksgiving holiday.
Gratitude

Junior Nick Trivelpiece has been working for months on what he calls "The Gratitude Project," a tribute to the School that would showcase just how strong our community is, while documenting this historic time. He visited community members and took photos of them holding signs that indicated what they are grateful for. A lot of hard work and many photos led to one magnificent art piece, which now hangs in the McNeil hallway. Take a look!
Twenty Years Ago...

November 19, 2020, marked the 20-year anniversary of the Manlius Pebble Hill Boys Varsity Soccer Team's first State Championship victory! Take a look at some of the photos that show what a proud day that was for Coach Ridall, the team, and the whole MPH community!
Grades 2 and 3 Math Projects Spark Creativity

Second and third graders completed a math project that reviewed and reinforced their math skills—and at the same time allowed them to express their creative side!

In Grade 2, students created candy stores. They worked through a math packet that reviewed place-value skills, including writing in different number forms (standard form, expanded form, and word form), practicing ordering numbers (greatest to least, least to greatest), and comparing numbers (greater than, less than, equal to). Those math skills were tied into into real-life skills, such as taking inventory of candy in their stores. Once students completed the packet, they created a shoebox diorama of their candy store! Some students had candy stores where the candy was free, and others had allergy-safe candy stores.

In the third-grade classroom, students created their own restaurants. Students worked in Google Slides on the iPad to complete their restaurant packet. They also practiced and reviewed many place-value skills and were introduced to other skills, such as addition, subtraction, and money. Third-grade students also crafted shoebox dioramas and engaged in an additional art project with Mrs. Fordmann, whereby they took a look at different signs for restaurants in the Syracuse area, discussed their features (color, size, lettering, etc.), and then created their own signs for their restaurants.

Recreation and Fitness Club

Members of the Recreation and Fitness Club fight the cold with action! Wednesday afternoon, kids braved the low temperature to take on a team fitness challenge before playing the club’s favorite game, Longball.
Sixth-Grade Scientists Learn About the pH Scale

In an effort to understand the pH scale, sixth grade scientists evaluated water, milk, lemonade, TUMS, vinegar, and hand sanitizer (2020’s contribution). Students learned not only about the pH scale, but also about the scientific value of a class average, variation in interpretation of a colorimetric scale, and science rocks.
Colorful Sounds in Kindergarten

Kindergarten students learned about the music of Antonio Vivaldi last week. They listened to the music from the Autumn Concerto and colored a fall picture using specific colors for specific elements they were hearing in the music, such as volume (loud and soft), long notes and short notes, and the various instruments, such as the violin.
Community Conversations: In Case You Missed It!
On Wednesday, Director of College Counseling Will Cardamone and Vice President for Admissions, Financial Aid, and Enrollment at Union College Matt Malatesta presented a Community Conversation titled,
"Navigating the College Search and Admissions Process in the Time of COVID-19: What Has Changed and What Remains the Same?"

Grateful Grams

The MPH 4 MPH Club organized a “Grateful Grams” program this week. The intent was to restructure the previous MPH tradition of candy grams in a way that was safe during the pandemic. All members of the MPH community were able to purchase a Grateful Gram, which included eco-friendly bracelets and a special message. The Grateful Grams are being distributed today, prior to the Thanksgiving break -- a perfect time to show appreciation for any member of the community! MPH 4 MPH members include: Tea Hokanson, Elise Aretsky, Sophia Lovett, Neha Chhablani, Hillary Stokes-Rees, Gianni Benson, Sanaya Benson, and Lizzy Berry.
Thank You!

On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff of Manlius Pebble Hill School,
thank you to those who made a gift during yesterday's
Two-for-Tuesdays challenge!

We are thrilled to announce that we exceeded BOTH of the challenges set forth by our generous alumni and their spouses: Cristina Danial '01 and Megan Nesloney and Ben Kram '95 and Sharon Kubo. Between your gifts and the two challenge matches, we raised a total of $13,173 from 58 donors for MPH in just one day!

Thank You Again!

Forgot to make your gift yesterday? Stay tuned for another opportunity next Tuesday!
