FIPPOA
F ire Island Pines Property Owners Association

As 2019 winds down, Pines residents have a lot to look forward to as we ring in the new year.

FIMI
First, I cannot overstate the importance of the beach restoration project. The beach is an indicator of the health of the Pines, and it affects the entire community. In fact, I received a Christmas card today from a resident thanking me for returning "the beach of the 1970s." For those of you who have seen the beach, it does look as robust as it did 50 years ago.

I am delighted to announce that-despite some minor delays-the sand placement is complete and construction of the public access walks has started. The sand fencing and grass will follow shortly. In addition, FIPPOA is continuing to pursue a new access walk at Sunburst Walk that will fill in the large gap between Nautilus and Ozone Walks. This will take additional time, as we must secure approvals from four different governmental agencies-and we cannot begin to pursue those approvals until the project is turned over from the contractor, Brownie, to the Army Corps of Engineers. Davis Park has already received a commitment from Suffolk County for an additional public access walk, so we anticipate approval for ours as well, most likely in late 2020.

When we return to the Pines in the spring, we will see a big, impressive beach that we can all enjoy. The Army Corps has engineered the new beach to last for 25 years. We can expect that the FIMI project will have a beneficial effect on property values as well.

Fire Island Boulevard License Agreement
Six years ago, FIPPOA received a license agreement from the Town of Brookhaven to manage the greenway along Fire Island Boulevard between Crown Walk on the east and Oak Walk on the west. I feel we have proven to the Town that we can manage the boulevard for the betterment of the community.  For that reason, we are seeking an extension of that license agreement to include the entire length of Fire Island Boulevard.  This will help us to address community needs and to improve the general appearance of the Pines. I will keep you up to date on our progress.

I feel that the Pines is in very good shape as the year ends and we start a new decade.

On behalf of our board and the dedicated staff of FIPPOA, I wish you happy Holidays and best wishes for the new year!
