UUCH Board Report
August 2021
The UUCH Board met on August 24th for its regularly scheduled meeting.
Rev. Jaimie gave updates on the search for staff positions and the process for selecting the chosen candidates. The search was successful and there was consensus from those involved that we have very capable new people for the positions of Director of Religious Education and Music Director.
The renovation of the sanctuary is going well, and it is anticipated that it will be complete by Labor Day. Bob Locklear led a team to meet with a local electronic integration company to assess our needs for a proper setup for video production and Zoom services, as well as improving our overall WiFi service.
The Board reviewed our current COVID policy and determined that there is no reason to change the policy at this time. The UUA has provided new guidelines, and UUCH is in line with those as well. You will find them here.
The Board continued its review of the Policies and Procedures Manual with a specific focus on rental policies.
On Saturday, August 28 the Council will have a leadership retreat on Zoom for all the Council members.
The Board will meet on Saturday, Sept. 25th, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM for a goal-setting retreat in lieu of our regular meeting in September. There will be no general board meeting in September. The next board meeting will be on October 26th, 2021.

Chancel Renovation Update
The chancel renovation is nearing completion! The flooring has been installed and the handrails have been fabricated (but not yet painted). The remaining tasks include painting of the walls, trim and handrails, and installation of light switches, pews & HVAC duct vents. Those tasks will be done this week and then the city inspector will be called for a final inspection.

Care List
This Sunday at Our Circle of Candles:
Angela Arnold (she/her) lit a candle of concern: For those in the path of Ida, today, and in the days to follow.
Gail and Howard Williams lit a candle of concern: Thinking about our niece and her family in Biloxi.
Kathy Fisher lit a candle of concern: Great checkup last week, although one number was a bit elevated. Bodily proof of stress. I expect most of us can say the same.
Jessica Schulz (she/her) lit a candle of sorrow: We learned about the death of a friend in San Diego.
Paul and Bridgit lit a candle of concern: For Paul's brother, two nieces, and extended family in Lafayette, LA (very close to New Orleans).
Angela Arnold (she/her) lit a candle of gratitude: That a 3rd shot of the vaccine was available to me, as an immunocompromised person.
Jessica Schulz (she/her) lit a candle of concern: I'm very nervous about my cataract surgery tomorrow.
Paul and Bridgit lit a candle of joy: Paul's cataract surgery was a success! He's healing well.
Kathy Fisher lit a candle of joy: Last week one grandson started his freshman year of college, his brother began his freshman year of high school, their younger brother began first grade, and their mom started graduate school. Another grandson began his senior year of high school.
