Georgetown has partnered with the DC government to coordinate one of DC’s new high-capacity vaccination sites. Georgetown will recruit of clinical volunteers – including medical and nursing students – to administer the life-saving shots.

During the World War II, Georgetown took part the Cadet Nurse Corps, a national program that sought to augment the nursing workforce for civilian and military positions.

Through an internship with the District of Columbia Office of Planning, De’Ara Graves (NHS’21) conducted research that contributed to the formation of a task force focused on food insecurity among older adults.

A search committee has been appointed to recruit the dean for the planned Georgetown School of Nursing. The committee invites input that will inform the leadership profile during upcoming listening sessions this week and through this survey, which will be open until 5:00 p.m. on March 12. The American Academy of Nursing named Lauren Inouye, MPP, RN, an adjunct faculty member at the School of Nursing & Health Studies, as its Chief Program Officer. Inouye is a nurse whose recent career has focused on government relations and public policy at the Council of Graduate Schools and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

NIH director Francis Collins launched a new initiative designed to end structural racism in biomedical research and committed NIH to instituting new ways to support diversity, equity, and inclusion, and identifying and dismantling any policies and practices that may harm our workforce and our science. As part of their new initiative, NIH has issued a Request for Information seeking input on approaches to improve and strengthen racial equity, diversity, and inclusion across the biomedical research enterprise. Started in 1982 as part of the Department of Pediatrics, the National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health (NCEMCH) recently returned to GUMC. NCEMCH programs include the MCH Evidence Center, the MCH Navigator workforce development program, the Health Center Resource Clearinghouse, and the HealthCheck Training and Resource Center. It also operates the MCH Digital Library, one of Georgetown's six, special-collection libraries. 

NCEMCH has been recognized by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) as "a shining example of applying the academic orientation of the university to the needs of community and state-based health care programs" and as "an absolutely essential component of the nation's [public health] program." The NCEMCH team is looking forward to working with GUMC on initiatives focused on women, infants, children, youth and families.
