JANUARY 2023 NOTABLE AUTHOR: TIM COCKEY

MlNDzEI image

Tim Cockey is the author of The Hearse You Came In On, the first in the “Hearse” series starring Hitchcock Sewell; a dapper undertaker caught up in murder investigations, political blackmail, dirty videos, and corruption within the police department.

Cockey was born in 1955 in Baltimore, Maryland and spent his childhood there. He completed his education overseas and then returned to Baltimore after graduation to work for a local paper. His work was advertising sales and design as well as book reviews.

While young, he knew he wanted to write, especially after reading DC comics’ Batman series as well as Howard Pyle’s Robin Hood'. He liked the idea of outsiders taking drastic or heroic efforts to stop evil and help good.

After a stint in North Carolina, he moved to New York City and promptly wrote The Hearse You Came In On. This was after his first book remained unpublished. The book became A Book Sense "Top Ten" pick and was nominated for a Dilys Award. His third book, The Hearse Case Scenario won the "Lefty Award" from the Left Coast Crime Association. The Hearse series runs to four books. In addition to writing books, Tim has been a story analyst for American Playhouse, ABC, and Hallmark Entertainment.

Tim Cockey also writes under the pen name of Richard Hawke.

GENRE: MYSTERY & THRILLER

Focuses on the efforts of a detective, private investigator, or amateur sleuth to solve the mysterious circumstances of a problem or crime, usually a mysterious death. The plot often centers on the deductive ability, prowess, confidence, or diligence of the detective as they attempt to unravel the crime or situation.

Unfortunately, quite a bit of construction is happening in Annapolis right now, both at St. John's College, where we usually have breakfast and gather in the morning, and at the Capital Mall. The Department of Legislative Services building has been completely demolished, and the staff that used that building are temporarily being hosted in the Senate and House building, where we gather for much of the day.

The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater is proud to present their first MainStage performance of 2023, the classic musical, Grease! Come celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Grease at The Playhouse, opening February 3, 2023.

Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding "Burger Palace Boys" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko (played by Dustin Perrott) and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski (played by Kristen Davis) try to relive the high romance of their "Summer Nights" as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as "Greased Lightnin'," "It's Raining on Prom Night," "Alone at the Drive-In Movie" recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An eight-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals place Grease among the world's most popular musicals.

*GREASE contains adult language and adult themes.

The show is preceded by Dinner featuring Dinner Rolls, Plated Salad, Dinner, Dessert, and Coffee, Tea, and Iced Tea. A Full Service Cash Bar is available. Bar tab and gratuity not included. Children under age 5 are not admitted.

Grease plays February 3-March 26 on Friday and Saturday evenings at 6PM and select Sunday matinees at 1PM.

The Washington County Playhouse is located at 44 North Potomac Street, Rear. Since 1985, The Playhouse has been entertaining guests in the heart of Hagerstown's Arts and Entertainment District and City Center.

Tickets (including dinner and show) cost $63.00 for Adults, and $57.00 for Active Military and First Responders. Tickets can be purchased at www.washingtoncountyplayhouse.com or by calling (301)739-7469.

A comedy, The Waverly Gallery was a finalist for the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Gladys, the elderly matriarch of the Green family, has run an art gallery in a small Greenwich Village hotel for many years. The management wants to replace her less-than-thriving gallery with a coffee shop. Always irascible but now increasingly erratic, Gladys is a cause for concern for her daughter, her son-in-law, and her grandson, from whose point of view this poignant memory play is told. A wacky and heartrending look at the effect of senility on a family, The Waverly Gallery was a success at New York's Promenade Theatre, winning an Obie for legendary Eileen Heckart in the role of Gladys. Presented with permission from Concord Theatricals.

Tickets are $18 and available in advance on our website, by calling our box office, or at the door before each performance.
