Beloved congregation,
Life is hard. Our lives sometimes feel like a never-ending stream of disappointments. Goals unreached. Dreams unrealized. Obedience to our gracious God unexpressed. Consequently, it can feel like we are dragging ourselves into worship each week. I want you to be encouraged that when we gather together, not only does God meet with us, but he is also the only one who can satisfy our disappointed and weary souls.
Jonathan Edwards testifies that "The enjoyment of God is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of earthly friends, are but shadows; but God is the substance. These are but scattered beams, but God is the sun. These are but streams. But God is the ocean."
So even if this has been a hard week for you, please remember that God made you for himself, and he desires to commune with you each Lord's Day. Because of Christ, we don't have to run and hide from God's presence, as Adam and Eve did in the garden. Yes, our sin is great, and we have broken and re-broken our covenant with God more times than we care to admit. However, because of Christ's finished work, we can run to corporate worship with joy each week. God knows our sin in all its fullness, but "Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God" (1 Pet. 3:18). So come and join the saints on earth and in heaven, declaring, "Blessed be the LORD forevermore! Amen and Amen” (Psalm 89:52).
In the Bonds of Christ's Love,
~Pastor Joe

Missionary Spotlight:
Evangelical Reformed Seminary of Ukraine
Kiev, Ukraine
Evangelical Reformed Seminary of Ukraine (ERSU) offers master’s-level education to students from a variety of denominations from churches in Eastern Europe, including Ukraine, Slovenia, Poland, and Belarus. WPC has supported ERSU ever since we came in contact with faculty and administrators during a mission trip to Kiev in 2010 to work with Jim and Marianna Peipon. Former WPC pastor Paul Alexander has served as a non-resident faculty member at ERSU, and the seminary has sent contacts to visit WPC as recently as April 2019 (Dr. Clay Quarterman and Pastor Ivan Bespalov). Having just celebrated its 20-year anniversary, ERSU will undergo many administrative changes this summer with the implementation of a new seminary president (Alistar Torrens) and board members to oversee the operation of ERSU.
CAPTION: Two of ERSU's spring graduates with seminary administrators & faculty.

"Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work"
(2 Cor. 9:7-8).
