Elections Have Consequences; Let's Volunteer to Change the Future
By Annisa Karim
Collier County Democratic Party Chair
Hello Democrats.
Elections have consequences.
The 2016 presidential election untethered a person who used his position as the most powerful man on earth to amass wealth and status for his family and cronies while this country slid into the midst of one of the worst pandemics in modern history.
Yet, all of this is eclipsed by what is happening right now. As I write this letter, the Senate is confirming Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. My eyes are filling with tears knowing she will surely vote to overturn the Affordable Care Act and Roe vs. Wade. Marriage equality could be next, along with climate change law, protections for workers, and gutting equal employment policies.
Senator Kamala Harris said, “There is no other issue that so disrespects and dishonors the work of Justice Ginsburg's life, than undoing the seminal decision in the court's history that made it clear -- a woman has a right to make decisions about her own body."
I'm terrified! The only way through this is to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. Joe Biden needs help in Congress to get the work of the people done! And we need to filp the State House and unseat the anti-science commissioners right here in Collier County.
My friends, it’s all hands on deck for the last few days before the election!
I have one question for you – how much do you want to set this county, state, and country back on track? Now, take that energy and VOLUNTEER!
We have just a few short days but we still have work to do. Help us call Democrats to remind them to drop-off their vote-by mail ballots or to vote in-person. Help us deliver no contact literature drops to Democrats who have not yet voted. Commit to 5 volunteer hours for this election, it’s worth it.
Let's keep moving #ForwardTogether

Hats Off to Our Amazing Volunteers
FloridaPolitics.com asked the question of where the Democratic Party in Florida is turning out the most votes.
The answer is: Collier County.
They wrote:
A look at county totals shows some of Florida’s Republican strongholds also see the highest turnout rate among Democrats so far this election cycle.
The clearest example comes in Collier County, where Democratic turnout 10 days out from the election has already exceeded 62 percent. As of Saturday morning, 26,310 Democrats had returned their mail ballot and another 7,553 cast votes at early voting locations. That’s a total of 33,863 votes already locked in.
Way to go Collier Democratic volunteers!
Hats off, too, to our Voter Protection team, which is doing a terrific job during this early voting period to help ensure that the rules of this election are applied fairly and evenly to all in-person voters.
Democratic poll watchers and greeters have brought certain situations to light in real time, allowing them to be resolved on the spot, which is the best outcome.
In one case, a Republican poll watcher was removed from working during the election and the Supervisor of Elections agreed to change some procedures to make sure voters are better protected in the future.
The Democratic team is well-trained (by Voter Protection leads Anne Daley and Marv Diamond) and we sincerely appreciate everyone's efforts to make sure that voting can take place without fear of intimidation or harassment.

You will immediately get a confirmation email with detailed instructions and a link to a brief training on how to download the MiniVAN touch app. You must download that app and watch the video before you pick up supplies.

Texting for Biden/Harris to Florida voters:
I LIVE IN A GATED COMMUNITY AND I’LL HOST DEMOCRATIC VOLUNTEERS.
Democrats are doing literature drops to doors of Democrats and No Party Affiliation voters all over Collier County. We will be working between now and election day. Some of those doors are behind gated communities. We need Democrats in each gated community who will host our canvassing teams.
Political Canvassing is NOT SOLICITING. It IS LEGAL and it is protected under the First Amendment. The only stipulation is that the canvassers are registered as guests of someone in the community.
Before we schedule a canvass in your gated community, we will call you with the names of the Democrats who will be doing no contact literature drops to targeted doors behind your gates. We'll ask you to put our drivers on your guest list. That’s all you need to do!
WE NEED MULTILINGUAL PEOPLE to help speak to members of our community about the importance of voting in this election.
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS or need help getting started, just text QUESTION to (239) 300-1632. One of our volunteer assistants will call you as soon as possible to answer your questions and help you get started!
