2023 Town Council Strategic Planning Retreat, February 2 & 3
The 2023 Town Council Strategic Planning Retreat will be held on February 2-3. During the retreat, Town Council and senior staff will evaluate 2022 plans, develop objectives for the coming year, review current projects and discuss long-term strategic planning to support the Town’s mission and goals. Click here for the agenda. The retreat will be open to the public and will be live streamed on the Town’s YouTube channel, available here.
 
In addition to live streaming the meeting, community members have the opportunity to participate and engage directly with Town Council on Feb. 2 following Mayor Labriola’s opening remarks, which begin at 8 a.m. If you cannot attend in person but want to share thoughts or concerns with Council members, please email your comments to Town Administrator Stephanie Tillerson at stillerson@kiawahisland.org by Tuesday, January 31.
BZA Public Hearings
This is a notification to area property owners and interested parties that a BZA meeting will be held this upcoming Monday, January 30, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., in Council Chambers, Kiawah Municipal Center, 4475 Betsy Kerrison Parkway, Kiawah Island, SC 29455. This hearing is open to the public. Click here to access the meeting agenda.

At least one week prior to BZA meetings, information on each application, including documents submitted by the applicant, will be available online here

Public Comments 
If anyone interested in submitting public comments about any case should email their comments referencing the case number and TMS number or address to Ms. Petra Reynolds, Town Clerk, at preynolds@kiawahisland.org. The BZA public hearing will be live-streamed (for viewing only) on the Town’s YouTube Channel.

On Tuesday, January 24, the Kiawah Island Golf Resort hosted a question and answering session regarding the proposed modifications to the Mingo Point dock. Bobcat Study Kicks off 17th Year
As part of the Kiawah Bobcat GPS Research Project, the world’s longest continuous study of its kind, Town Biologists will begin trapping bobcats on January 31 and fitting them with GPS collars. Now in its 17th year, the study provides valuable data on bobcat survival, reproductive success, food habits, habitat use and movement patterns. As of 2022, biologists have collared 99 bobcats and obtained more than 200,000 individual GPS locations. Stay tuned for project updates and the introduction of our 2023 bobcats. Learn more about the study here.
Town of Kiawah Island Seeking a Communications Manager
The Town of Kiawah Island is unique compared to other South Carolina municipalities. Kiawah Island is a residential community with a resort surrounded by a unique and beautiful natural setting. Kiawah Island is a private community.

The Town of Kiawah Island is responsible for the public health and safety of all those within the Town limits of Kiawah. The 2020 Census estimates the Town’s population is 1,769 full-time residents. However, the Town is home to hundreds of second-home property owners and hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and supervising all communication and marketing strategies for the Town. This individual will oversee the development of goals, strategies, and implementation plans to execute a comprehensive communication strategy and marketing campaign. In addition, the incumbent will promote the creation, enhancement, and development of programs to promote the Town of Kiawah Island and its services to the community. Some marketing goals will include maintaining the brand integrity of Kiawah Island and strategically positioning the Town as a trusted source of knowledge while establishing the Town’s status as a leader in the community. The Communication Manager will also oversee the launch and management of the Town’s new website. Reports to the Town Administrator.

Business License Renewal Notice
The business license renewal period begins Wednesday, February 1, 2023. To avoid penalties, all business licenses must be renewed by Sunday, April 30, 2023. Licenses must be renewed using the Town's online service portal.
Kiawah Island Club to Host 8th U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship - Call for Volunteers
As one of the premier organizations in the world of golf today, the USGA administers fourteen separate national championships, ten of which are expressly for amateurs. The Amateur Four-Ball has quickly become one of the USGA’s most popular events, with close to 2,500 entries every year. This year’s championship will take place right here on Kiawah Island. The practice rounds and stroke play will take place on River Course and Cassique from Wednesday, May 17 through Sunday, May 21. Cassique will host the match play Monday, May 22 through Wednesday, May 24. There are many exciting volunteer opportunities available for those who wish to get involved, while providing services which will add value to the player's experience. Click here to explore available volunteer roles and register. Lucky Dog News Announces New Website for The Island Connection and The Island Eye News
Lucky Dog Publishing of S.C., LLC announced today the launch of two brand new web and mobile sites to complement its two biweekly newspapers, The Island Connection and The Island Eye News, effective immediately, according to Lynn Pierotti, the group’s publisher and director of operations. 

The move to online/digital reporting will serve to significantly enhance both audience reach and content of the two newspapers’ print versions, currently read by approximately 15,000 residents. Print operations, which began nearly 17 years ago, will continue under Pierotti’s supervision.  

The Island Connection serves residents, business owners and vacationers on Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island and Johns Island while The Island Eye News serves Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Dewees Island and Goat Island.
 
The web and mobile sites will offer exclusive content sponsorships to local and regional advertisers, in addition to standard “run-of-site” ad units.
