Happy Thanksgiving week, everyone!

Last week was an exciting one for TDPS, as we showed what it truly means to #KeepCreatingUMD. Congratulations to all the students, faculty, and staff involved in the Fall MFA Dance Thesis Concert and the Fearless New Play Festival. It was such beautiful, inspiring work, and all created while adhering to COVID-19 safety protocol. We were once again reminded why we do what we do.

Check out the photos from Rose Xinran Qi's and Krissy Harris' thesis concert below, as well as two feature stories about the Fearless New Play Festival, one of which was written by sophomore theatre major Leah Packer for Broadway World.

Also, huge congratulations to our students and alumni who are raking in the accolades! Check out the news section below to find out more.

We will have a few more online events in the coming weeks, so check out the TDPS Virtual Series events below.

We hope you have plans to safely relax this week and gear up for the final sprint towards winter break. We got this!

Today, November 23, 11:00AM

Devised Work Collaboration, taught by TDPS associate professor Brian MacDevitt, is a course that explores techniques of telling visual stories and the use of high style-low technical approaches to theatrical storytelling.

In this showing of original work, students present the story of a young woman's journey through a forest after she has lost her mother in a terrible incident. She meets a variety of animals while fleeing from a mysterious figure who is hunting her down.

Estimated show time: 15 minutes.

Note: The script contains strong language and drug references.

Feature Stories
Maryland Today: 'Fearless' New Voices Take the Stage

A story about the Fearless New Play Festival was included in Maryland Today last week!

"The festival provides a critical opportunity for a wide range of new theater talent, said Agyeiwaa Asante '18. 'There’s been a real reckoning in theater institutions lately around making sure that the voices we say we support are actually being heard—things like this are a great way of making those first steps.'"

The Fearless New Play Festival in Broadway World

Theatre major Leah Packer wrote an article about the Fearless New Play Festival, now up on Broadway World's blog.

“FNPF reminded me to not only embrace the ability to constantly change and better my characters but also recognize the little ever-changing joys in my life. Like the developing plays in this festival, we are always allowed to change and grow.”

TDPS alum in The Diamondback

For UMD Homecoming weekend, alum Kelly Colburn (MFA Design '18) created a projection installation called "art is water, seeds are change" at The Clarice as part of this year's homecoming celebrations. When asked how the performing arts contribute to Terp Pride, Colburn wrote, "through celebrating multiculturalism and diversity, living in harmony with the environment, making room for self-discovery, enriching our minds, celebrating excellence, joy, and beauty, improving our world and planting seeds for change."
