“You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.”

Jon Kabat-Zinn
Anyone else feeling like there just isn't enough time in the day?

Checking emails, responding to emails, holiday prep, events, projects, work, ensuring you're eating the right amount of calories and managing your water intake, cleaning, dating your significant other, finding a significant other, time for rest, time for volunteering, meetings, bathroom breaks, more meetings...the days appear short and the lists appear longer. I want to know if there was ever a time when 24 hours was enough?

At the end of those long lists, I know there is value when considering participation and involvement. Heck, our entire year at the Elkhorn Chamber is a series of events that rely on amazing volunteers and community support. In general, we thrive on togetherness and feeling included. And what I should be doing is encouraging everyone to sign-up, participate, join in the fun as we near our 40th Annual Christmas Celebration and Let It Glow. But I beg you, as we enter into this next busy season [which let's face it, seems to last 12 months out of the year] stay mindful of your level of activity. In my opinion, we don't do things well when we are trying to do everything. And when we're overworked and too busy, we miss what's important because we're not paying attention.

Of course we want everyone to take part in the upcoming festivities. We want to see the young, and the not-so-young, unite to bring holiday cheer to the masses. But, if you're not meeting tasks with joy, you might be doing too much. OR you simply may need to increase your Christmas cookie consumption! Either way, be on the lookout for activity levels that are depleting and not fulfilling. Friends, hear me when I say there is a way to experience togetherness while preserving our sanity and health. There is balance. There is a way to surf the waves.

And I'm asking you when you figure it out, please please call me! Ha!
Be Merry. Be Bright.
