Black History Month

February is Black History Month and the theme for 2023 focuses on Black Resistance.

From the Association for the Study of African American Life and History:

"African Americans have resisted historic and ongoing oppression, in all forms, especially the racial terrorism of lynching, racial pogroms, and police killings since our arrival upon these shores. These efforts have been to advocate for a dignified self-determined life in a just democratic society in the United States and beyond the United States political jurisdiction."

Beginning in February, there will be a series of events planned to celebrate and share Black wellness, art, literature, music, and community across the Los Rios colleges.

  • Requirements that were in effect at the time the student was admitted to a Los Rios college
  • Requirements that were in effect at the time the student originally enrolled in an accredited college

ABPA Institute is a conduit to create opportunities that allows Arab-American and minority students to test drive their careers. We connect students with our employer partners in the public and private sector. During the summer, ABPA Institute partners with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for 11-week, paid Resource Assistants Internships (DHA-RAI) with housing provided in national BLM offices. The BLM DHA-RAI Program offers rigorous geoscience opportunities in national offices. The objective of the DHA-RAI Program is to provide career experiences for students in undergraduate or graduate degree programs, who might seek employment with federal agencies in the Department of the Interior (DOI). Applicants should have a strong interest in a career with the DOI, which includes the BLM, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), National Park Service (NPS), and many other bureaus and offices. Current students who successfully complete this summer program will be eligible to be noncompetitively hired into federal positions for two years starting from the completion date of their qualifying degree program.
