"Hope"

Pastor Sunil Balasundaram
Senior Pastor
“Hope” is an amazing word. In the New International Version of the Bible it is used 158 times, 75 of those in the New Testament, 74 of them in Acts and the Epistles alone! Interestingly, the Gospels never use the word (except once by Matthew). I wonder if it was because that word took on sudden and deeper meaning in the New Testament only after the Resurrection?

Normally hope is a concept that at worst implies wishful thinking, and at best is something to take you through bad times. But for the early Christians, hope was entirely different. They lived it. The Resurrection was the reason they had faith.
Lay Leader Insights: Unconditional Love
by Laurie Lewis, RN, Minister of Visitation, Lay Leader
The love of God can be tough to comprehend. God's love is unconditional, immeasurable, unchangeable. The love of God means he is present with us every moment of the day, and present with everyone else, too. Jesus has no favorites. Even on our worst days, he believes every person has redeemable qualities.
May Mission of the Month
Hope International is a faith-based nonprofit organization that alleviates the many dimensions of poverty by providing microenterprise development services, biblically-based business training, savings services and small loans (micro-loans) in the poorest, least served countries of our world. The microloans that HOPE provides help people realize their own dreams toward self sufficiency by having the seed capital they need to start their own businesses. CLICK HERE to read more

Helping our hurting world...in the name of Christ
Thank you to everyone who contributed prayers, donations, and themselves to our Rise Against Hunger meal packing event on April 30. We packed 12,096 meals over two 90-minute shifts. Each shift had approximately 35 people. It was a fun and rewarding event. We have now packed 172,854 meals in 14 events!

With over 25,000 people (mostly children) dying worldwide every single day from hunger and hunger-related illnesses, this event took one small step towards providing meals and sustainable help – education, agricultural, water resources – to those in the greatest need. Thank you to all our Champions who helped make a better life for another person today!

Get Involved – Make a Difference – Change the World
If you were unable to help with the Rise Against Hunger event at DUMC on April 30, a non-profit Christian organization called TheWACOneProject is partnering with Feed My Starving Children to do a meal packing project at Del Val on May 20 and 21. Their goal is to pack 170,000 meals for Ukraine. They are working with DUMC’s Kevin McPoyle to help organize this event. They hope to bring people together from across the various Doylestown churches.
Bucks County Interfaith Coalition for Refugee Resettlement invites you to a reception on May 15. They also offer great volunteer opportunities. Read more here.
If you would like to support the United Methodist Humanitarian Response in Ukraine, please click here for more information.
Coalition to Shelter and Support the Homeless (CSSH) - the group that runs Code Blue - is seeking volunteers for various committees including their Raise the Roof Fundraiser, Supplies Committee, Transportation Committee, Volunteer Relations Committee, and Finance Committee. Maybe you can't help with Code Blue, but can you lend a hand in another way? Click here for more info
