From the Children at Saint Paul's
Love in Action

The children of Saint Paul’s have been gathering together online each Sunday morning this summer during our normal formation time. Our “Summer Gathering at Saint Paul’s” is a summertime program for us to connect and catch up, share stories, sing songs, and pray together. It has been fun having siblings, parents, and even pets join us, and everyone LOVES being able to show up in their pajamas or bare feet if they like!

During our prayers, one of our families asked about praying for a grandparent who is feeling lonely during this time. It generated a conversation and we all shared people in our lives who have been isolated and alone during the past months. In Godly Play, we talk a lot about loving our neighbors and we thought this current situation provides our children with an opportunity to put love into action. We decided that we would make a list of people who may need a little extra love right now and deliver a special butterfly and message made by the children to serve as a tangible reminder that they are remembered, loved, and prayed for.

How You Can Get Involved:

If you have a child at Saint Paul’s, or if YOU want to create a butterfly:
  • Please let us know if your child/family would like to participate in making butterflies. Just respond to this email and let us know how many children in your family will be creating. Adults and youth are welcome to create, too! Just let us know how many you need. Please email Kim Butler and include your name, address, and how many people will be participating. We will deliver supplies and instructions to you.

  • Decorate your butterflies and have them ready to show everyone at our Godly Play ZOOM gathering next Sunday, August 23rd at 9:30 a.m. We will take a screen shot of all our gorgeous butterflies and bless them and pray for the people they will be given to.

  • The week after Sunday, August 23rd, we will put our love into action! If you have a special person you want to deliver your butterflies and messages to, please deliver it that week. If you would like for us to deliver them for you, please email Kim Butler and we will pick them up.

All of our Saint Paul’s Family:
Please let us know if you or a family member, friend, or neighbor would enjoy receiving a butterfly and message from the children of Saint Paul’s. Please send the name, address, and phone number so we can coordinate.

We are excited about this beautiful outreach opportunity and love connection. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please feel free to contact Mrs. Ivey or Mrs. Kim.

With love,
Mrs. Ivey Coleman and Mrs. Kim Butler
Search Committee Survey
We ask that all active parishioners 16 years and older complete the questionnaire by Friday, August 28th.

Your perspective, experiences, and opinions are highly valued and an important part of our Parish self-examination. Your responses will also help guide the Search Committee in determining the kind of Rector that will help us continue to grow into the parish we aspire to be. As you review the questions, please give them careful and prayerful consideration.
If you are unable to complete the questionnaire electronically, we are happy to provide a paper copy; however, we strongly encourage you to submit your responses online, as it will greatly assist us in compiling the information. Please be assured that your responses are completely confidential.

Thank you for your participation in this survey. Your input is vital to our search process and will have an important role in the selection of our next Rector. We look forward to hearing from you.

Our church's deepest and strongest roots are found in daily common prayer. The Book of Common Prayer contains a variety of daily prayer services for both private or public use, but few Episcopalians today are comfortable with how to pray these prayers solo or in community (in whatever form it presently takes). Praying Together offers tutorials about prayer and our prayer tradition so that everyone may learn how to pray the daily prayers of our church, giving their attention and intention to God's presence in the community of common prayer.

Contact Fr. Jenkins if you would like to request instruction about a particular daily prayer service or at a particular time.
Noonday Prayer
Wednesday, August 19, 12:30 p.m.

OR from Zoom App, Meeting ID: 595 177 454
OR phone-in: (646) 876-9923

PASSWORD: Email Maddy Elledge to request.
Gather online to pray the service of Noonday Prayer. The service will be led by members of the parish and the bulletin will be presented through Zoom so all may participate.

Noonday Prayer is a short and simple service which allows prayer to enter into the midst of our daily work or other activities, while joining our prayers in the ongoing prayer of the Church around the world. It may also be observed in private and is found online here and on p.103-107 in The Book of Common Prayer (BCP) or in the simplified version daily devotions on page 138.
Praying with the Word
Wednesday, August 19, 7 p.m.

OR from Zoom App, Meeting ID: 595 177 454
OR phone-in: (646) 876-9923

PASSWORD: Email Maddy Elledge to request.
This tutorial will offer a way to encounter the Word in prayer through contemplative reflection on a passage of Holy Scripture. The more we practice and allow the transformation process to happen, the more we are able to experience the Indwelling Presence in everything we do. These practices are drawn from Rev. Martin Smith’s classic guide The Word is Very Near You: Praying with Scripture.

Following the tutorial and meditation with Holy Scripture, we will join the parish for the liturgy of Compline on the same zoom meeting at 8 p.m.

"Contemplative practices facilitate and deepen our relationship with God.”

Inquiries, questions to be addressed in the tutorial? Please send them in advance to Fr. John Jenkins.
Compline – Facebook Live and Zoom
Wednesdays, 8 - 8:15 p.m., social time follows worship on Zoom.

Participate live through our Facebook page.

OR from Zoom App, Meeting ID: 595 177 454
OR phone-in: (646) 876-9923

PASSWORD: Email Maddy Elledge to request.

Compline is a beautiful, simple, and quiet service to end the day together in prayer with God. This service is led by members of the parish using an on-screen bulletin so everyone may pray together.

Following the prayers, which are streamed on Facebook Live, those who gather through Zoom have opportunity for a mid-week visit.

Zoom Tips & Tricks
Since we have been fortunate enough to continue connecting online as a parish family through Zoom, we wanted to provide some helpful guidelines & tips.

  • You do not need to have a Zoom account to participate - Everyone can join!

  • You can access the link either through your smartphone, tablet, computer, or by calling in by phone

  • If you use your smartphone, you should download the Zoom app beforehand

  • You can enable both audio and video, or just audio if you prefer not to be seen
  • **You MUST enable audio to be able to hear and speak. If using a computer: "Join with computer Audio" may appear when you log in. If using cellphone/tablet: Select the option to Dial in using Wifi.

  • Use the mute feature when you are not talking—this will make the call better for everyone

  • If you have trouble connecting (some people can connect their video but not their audio), leave the meeting and try again

For instructions on how to use Zoom, click here. Or, email Maddy Elledge for a quick tutorial.
