Dear St. Paul's Community,
This past Sunday our Annual Meeting was a time of rejoicing and celebrating all that God is doing among us, and also a time of looking forward at what is in store for us in the coming year. If was encouraging to see so many of you there and, surprisingly, it was actually a lot of fun!
As we continue in this season of Lent I'm very excited to announce a new opportunity for us to come together for fellowship and spiritual formation – a new video series called, "Learning to Pray." Each week we will release a video discussing a form of prayer, some of which will be familiar and some maybe less so, to help us go deeper into a life of prayer this Lent and beyond (if you lack internet access of a way to view the videos, I'm happy to provide the script in text). After watching the video and trying the form of prayer at home, we will then come together on Wednesday evenings at 7pm to discuss prayer, what we've learned, or how we've grown or been impacted by the particular practice of prayer.
Our first meeting will be this coming Wednesday, March 10th. Information for the virtual meeting as well as the first video, which is an introduction to the "learning to pray" series, is soon to follow. I hope this series helps us grow together as a community, enriching our prayer and relationship with God and also giving us time to enrich one another through intentional conversation and friendship.
Wishing you a continued holy Lent,
Fr Jarred

St Paul's Anti-Racist Awareness (SPARA) book club news:
we've finished our reading and discussion of Just Mercy, by Bryan Stevenson (the Community Read of Newburyport High School), and This Book is Anti-Racist, by Tiffany Jewell.
Our book club is returning in mid-April.
But your thoughts and ideas are welcome in the meantime: email Linda!
Here are some resources from parishioners: This week's theme at the Center for Action & Contemplation is "Learning to See" - check it out to learn about biases and more. This month's issue of National Geographic has a feature article (and an editorial, too) on capital punishment and the "Witness to Innocence" project.

St. Paul's Annual Meeting
The reviews are in-the Annual Meeting was a surprising change from the dry (and lengthy) meetings we have all endured in the past. It was actually fun! Fr Jarred's review of memorable word gaffs from church postings ("The choir invites any member of the congregation who enjoys sinning, to join the choir.") got us going. Ed Winslow's first slide show showcased the accomplishments of our retiring Senior Warden Bronson de Stadler over his years at St. Paul's, ending with his favorite 17th-century outfit with the celebrated white stockings. Ed then took us merrily took us down the road of the remarkable accomplishments of the Technology Initiative, starting with Bob Keller's initiative on Zoom to the current t-shirt dressed Technology Team on the new balcony video/soundboard who make our services possible each week. The video ended with the ever-ambitious team's improvement goals for 2021. The accomplishments of the past year 2020 video (opening with a Star Wars theme) was informative, celebratory, inspiring, and overall a hoot, If you missed it, click on the link below.
With meaningful prayer, Fr Jarred's report on the continuing limitations of the pandemic as well as a vision for the future, fun videos, and slide shows the meeting also got some business done. We congratulate Ed Winslow on his appointment as Senior Warden, Karen Spangler as Junior Warden, Nick Ives as Treasurer, and Deidre Budzyna as Clerk. We also celebrate the many accomplishments of Bronson de Stadler as he retires from Senior Warden after four years of service, Stu Tuthill after a decade or more total serving as Treasurer on many rotations and leading the very capable Finance Committee, and the diligent and ever articulate wordsmith Clare Keller as Clerk, a very important and often underappreciated role.
We welcome new vestry members Lise Reid and Lorrie Jones, and we thank departing members Michele Rogers, Jay Gamble, and Jenn Mansfield for their contributions over the past years.
It was a terrific brunch-time meeting that showed the spirit, energy, competence, and, I must say, the playfulness of our new priest and our new leadership which to this editor added even more spirit to the body of Christ we call St. Paul's.
We can all look forward to an exciting year ahead worshipping virtually for now but hopefully returning to our congregate worship in the church soon. And yes, Mass in the Grass will return this spring. Our mission work feeding and helping our fellow man will continue, and energetic voices expressed our need to resume our many past missions to others from Lawrence to Chelsea to overseas. Our prayer life continues to deepen. We pray for the health and well-being of all. Amen
