LOWER-INCOME COMMUTERS BENEFIT WITH CLIPPER START
Clipper START is coming to San Francisco Bay Ferry soon to help more lower-income commuters benefit from discounted fares.

Clipper START is a regional program to provide discounted transit fares to eligible lower-income residents. San Francisco Bay Ferry will be added to the program in late November, and eligible riders can benefit at the conclusion of our Dollar Days on the Bay program.

The eligibility cut-off for Clipper START is a household income no more than 200% of the federal poverty line. The eligibility threshold is $52,400 for a family of four in 2020.

Once you have an active Clipper START card, you’ll receive a 50 percent discount off San Francisco Bay Ferry’s cash fare, equivalent to the discount provided to seniors, youth riders and disabled passengers. The one-way Clipper START fare for the Vallejo route will be $7.50. For Alameda/Oakland, the one-way Clipper START fare will be $3.60. For Richmond, it will be $4.60.

You can apply for Clipper START now at clipperstartcard.com. We’ll announce when San Francisco Bay Ferry is officially in – we’re anticipating being added just before Thanksgiving. In the meantime, take advantage of $1 fares on Hopthru through our Dollar Days on the Bay promotion.
TWO MORE FERRIES COMING TO SAN FRANCISCO BAY
WETA, the agency that provides San Francisco Bay Ferry, recently agreed to purchase two new high-speed ferries from Washington-based Mavrik Marine to replace retiring vessels.

The two new vessels will be similar to Dorado and Delphinus, a pair of 320-passenger ferries currently being built by Mavrik Marine. The additional two ferries will have a higher top speed than Dorado and Delphinus. One will replace MV Solano, which was retired in 2019. The other will replace MV Bay Breeze, on deck to be retired in 2021.

WETA has added seven new ferries with a combined 2,935 seats to its fleet since 2017. Learn more information about the newest ferries on the way here.
