COLLEGE PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS: WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY
Did You Know?
There are plenty of jobs right now that we don't even know exist! This section of the newsletter will highlight lesser known areas of study and what jobs you can get with them.

Welding and Metallurgical Engineering Technology
Welding and Metallurgical Engineers study the structure of materials and how they join together. These engineers work in the manufacturing industry making products such as cars, airplanes, and advanced metals. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, engineers in this field earn on average $82,000/year in Michigan.
Public Relations
Public relations specialists build and maintain a positive public image for a company or organization. They create media, from press releases to social media messages, that shape public opinion of the company or organization and increase awareness of its brand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, specialists in this field make on average $62,000/year.
DETROIT TRAINING CENTER CLASSES
Masonry Cohort 7
This hands-on training program will provide students with the skills necessary to work on important Masonry Restoration projects in the city of Detroit and beyond.

Michigan Residential Builders License

The MI Residential Builders license class is structured toward anyone who has a desire to develop their own construction business or who is looking to obtain a license. This is a live stream course.

PAYING FOR COLLEGE
November is Scholarship Month!
The McNeil Scholar Program-Detroit

The McNeil Scholar Program-Detroit awards $500 to $5000 on an annual basis and are renewable for three consecutive years for DPSCD high school graduates.
The Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship

Each year, The Lake Michigan Credit Union awards (20) $2,000 scholarships for Michigan and Florida high school seniors. Application closes January 31, 2022.
Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Scholarship

This scholarship program was established in support of students attending accredited historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) nationwide. The program awards two (2) $10,000. Deadline is November 18, 2021.
Michigan ECHO Scholarship

MCAN has officially launched a tuition-free pathway for students who are not eligible for federal financial aid to pursue an associate degree or certificate. Applications may be submitted through Dec. 31, 2022, but funds are limited, so interested individuals are encouraged to apply as early as they are able.

Fill Out the FAFSA Today!
There are some changes to the 2022-2023 FAFSA this year!

Completing the FAFSA is key to making sure you can pay for college. Check out some FAFSA tips to make sure you are filling out the FAFSA correctly and getting as much free money for college as possible!

Need help navigating the financial aid process? Join the Office of Financial Aid at the University of Michigan for Financial Aid Nights!

There are upcoming sessions every Tuesday and Thursday until December 9th from 4-5 PM EST.

DCA WINTER BAZAAR:
FINALS DESTRESSIVAL
The Detroit College Ambassadors (DCA) are partnering with Project Big Sister and the Omicron Omicron chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity to bring you the 2nd Annual Finals Destressival!

DCA will be hosting a free screening of "Spider- Man: No Way Home" on Friday, December 17th at Emagine, Royal Oak. There will be a private theater, free pizza, and more!
BLACK FRIDAY SCHOLARSHIP BOOTCAMP
Fresh Perspectives Seminars is excited to welcome you to the 8th Annual Black Friday Scholarship Bootcamp! Their program has helped students win more than $17.5 million in scholarships and study abroad funding to more than 100 countries.

The Black Friday Scholarship bootcamp will be held Friday, November 26th from 8-5 PM virtually.
PAID YOUTH ADVISORY
COUNCIL POSITIONS
The Strategic Community Partners Youth Advisory Council (SCP YAC) will bring together a carefully selected group of 16-18 youth and young adults from across Michigan’s Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.

The goal of the council will be to provide youth voice, feedback, and insight on future programs created by SCP and its partners with and for the community. This opportunity is paid! Apply by November 19th to be considered!
