Dear Friends of the Kingswood Youth Center,
We hope this email finds you healthy, balanced, and enjoying summer! Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic our services to local youth have become more important than ever. Finding safe, healthful, and creative ways to serve our teens has been extremely rewarding!
We are proud to announce that our summer programs are open on a limited basis under the State of NH Day Camp Guidance!
We are still hosting virtual programs, providing food for families, and connecting families with vital support such as United Way COVID Relief Funds.
Our annual fundraiser will also take a new form! Instead a 'Chili Challenge,' we're hosting a CHILLY CHALLENGE! In November, a group of us will take a cold dip with substance misuse prevention advocate, Chucky Rosa. We will celebrate virtually following the event! In the coming weeks we will be seeking sponsors and donors to support the KYC through this fun new event!

Summer Programs!
Beginning July 2nd, the KYC began holding in-person programs again! They have been held almost exclusivity outdoors, with small numbers of teens and have been in accordance with the latest health and safety guidelines.
We are sure it goes without saying, but we have been THRILLED to see our KYC teens again! And it's been apparent they have been happy to be back. Twice per week, we get together, eat a delicious meal, play games, enjoy treats, and just spend time together. It's been rewarding and fulfilling to see our members in person again.

Families In Transition Run For Hope!
On August 6th, eight KYC teens laced up their shoes and participated in a 5k walk on the Cotton Valley Rail Trail! Families in Transition- New Horizons, hosted their annual fundraiser... virtually! Teens showed up at KYC, logged on to the LIVE Facebook kickoff, and then took to the trail to walk for hope! The KYC raised a total of $155 for FITNH.
"Since its inception, FIT has been committed to providing only the most innovative, and effective interventions specifically designed to help homeless individuals and families reach beyond the cycle of homelessness to lead healthy and successful lives."

The KYC Kupboard
For fourteen weeks, the KYC ran a "care package" program, where families came once per week to pick up roughly 50lbs of groceries, household necessities, and treats. Now that we are holding in-person programs again, food distribution has taken a new form, and a more permanent resource has been put in place: The KYC Kupboard!
Twice per week, families can come "shop," the KYC's own food pantry! Fridge and freezer foods are available, along with a large variety of shelf stable food and drinks.
This resource is free and available to all families of 7th-12th graders who reside in the towns served by the Governor Wentworth Regional School District.

The KYC Kloset!
The KYC Kloset, the Center's free thrift store, has been a staple for our teens for years. It located in an out-building behind the Center. During program hours, teens can shop the Kloset, and bring home whatever they need! The Kloset includes shirts, pants, shorts, dresses, slacks, jackets, shoes, boots, jewelry, backpacks, and more! This resource is made possible by donations from community members.

Virtual Meetings!
We have continued running weekly virtual meetings with our teens! While we have opened for limited in-person programs, not all of our teens have the ability to attend, so virtual meetings have been a wonderful way to stay connected. We have had so much fun catching up, playing games, and chatting with our KYC members through this platform.

KYC's Chilly Challenge Fundraiser!
Dear Friends of the Kingswood Youth Center,
2020 has brought many unprecedented changes and unexpected twists and turns. Here at the KYC we have been addressing community needs in creative and fluid ways. We sincerely hope that you and yours are well and are finding a path forward amidst uncertainty. Our annual Chili Challenge fundraiser will take on a new format this year: instead of hot CHILI we will be taking a CHILLY dip in the ocean: The Chilly Challenge!
The KYC's services to our community's youth would not have been possible without the generous support garnered through 10 consecutive years hosting the Chili Challenge. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for the KYC's recreational, educational, and enrichment programs, nutrition and clothing assistance, and individual mentoring is greater than ever.

On Saturday, November 21, a group from the KYC will join youth substance misuse prevention advocate and former boxer, Chucky Rosa, for a 'Chilly Dip,' at Seabrook Beach. (This is nothing new for Rosa, who jumps in 365 days a year!). A virtual event will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020 from 7:00-8:00 PM to celebrate our supporters! Please consider sponsoring this event!
The benefits of sponsorship:
- Our sponsors' generosity will be celebrated through three Facebook posts, three Instagram posts, one email blast, one announcement in the Granite State News, promotional posters and a live thank you at our virtual event!
- Our 'Absolute Zero' sponsors ($1,000 or more) will have the opportunity to submit a 30-60 second video which will be shared during our live event and through social media.
- Most importantly, this is an opportunity to support a vital community resource which is needed now more than ever. The KYC just celebrated its 20-year anniversary; thousands of lives have been touched by the KYC. Educational, recreational, and enrichment programs coupled with individual mentoring, clothing and nutrition assistance and more brighten the futures of our community's youth, many of whom reside in poverty. During spring school closures, the Center hosted extensive virtual programs, distributed over 16,000 lbs. of food and raised over $6,000 for local families. Granite United Way support for our families!
Through Granite United Way, the KYC secured $6,500 in relief funds which were paid directly to families of KYC students who were most impacted by the pandemic. Thank you Granite United Way!

Asking for your continued support...
As we enter our third decade of serving our community's youth, we ask for your continued help and support. We realize that this is a hard time to think about making monetary contributions to charitable causes. However, there are many incentives to give right now including increased need in our community and the new 'above-the-line' deduction available through the CARES Act. We forecast an increase in the demand for our vital services following the COVID-19 pandemic. Roughly seventy-eighty percent of our participants qualify for free or reduced school meals, indicating that they reside at or near the federal poverty line. We offer free access to out-of-school programs, which teach life skills and promote physical fitness and positive peer engagement. All programs include a free hot meal. Students have access to free clothing from our thrift shop, affectionately named, "the KYC Kloset," and the KYC works hard to connect students with important resources and opportunities.
