Message from Governor’s Office – COVID-19 Status – 11/12/20
Please see below the email the League received from the Governor’s Office outlining the dangerous rise in COVID-19 cases in Nevada.
In order to be in good standing with the Governor’s Office as we advocate for our priorities during Session, we should demonstrate our keen partnership with the Governor’s Office containment and mitigation strategy. In my view, this equates to:
- Accelerating business inspections to eliminate business noncompliance as a source of the community spread. This also provides data-driven justification to keep businesses open. Perhaps set a target percentage for businesses inspected and a target compliance rate.

Encourage all municipal employees and their family members as well as those doing business with the cities to download and use the COVID Trace app. Additionally, publicize and encourage that businesses in our jurisdictions follow the same protocol; encouragement of the tracing app for all employees and their families and for all customers who patronize those businesses. The COVID Trace App can be downloaded for free from Apple and Android app stores and alerts users if they have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. If everyone had the app, it would be a very powerful contact trace tool. Information and media toolkit can be found here.

Fellow Nevadans,
Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Madeline Burak and I recently joined the Governor’s team as the Director of Community Outreach and Constituent Affairs. In this role, I will be communicating with you regularly to provide updates on the current COVID figures in Nevada as well as share what you can do to help get us through this challenging time and hopefully save lives and our suffering economy.
Due to the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases and other data trends, I wanted to send an update to key stakeholders throughout the State. Attached you'll find a NV COVID-19 status report summarizing the current COVID-19 situation in Nevada re: cases, positivity rates, testing, and hospitalizations.
As you are all aware, earlier this week, Governor Sisolak asked Nevadans to stay at home as much as possible for the next two weeks to help slow the spread of COVID-19. We are calling it “Stay at Home 2.0.” We appreciate many of you have already acted in direct response to the Governor’s call and we hope this email may help provide some guidance for how businesses and organizations can continue to do more.
This report should serve as guidance to you and those around you be it at home or in the workplace. Noncompliance with these simple measures is threatening Nevada’s economy in this critical moment and we need everyone to lead by example if we want to change the trajectory of COVID-19 in Nevada.
Below are ways you can do your part to slow the spread.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
STAY AT HOME 2.0: As you know, Tuesday the Governor rolled out “Stay at Home 2.0,” asking for swift action to change our behaviors so we can see a downward trajectory at the end of this 14 day period. If you don't have to go out, don't go out. Reduce your time in public to what is necessary and limit any and all exposure to those outside your household. Avoid gatherings -- large and small. Our businesses are doing what they can to keep employees and customers safe, but we need those employees and customers to practice all public health measures at home as well. Do not have people outside of your household over for dinners, parties, or other gatherings at your home. Connect over Zoom or the phone.
COVID TRACE APP: We strongly encourage all Nevadans to download the COVID Trace App on their phones. The app will help Nevadans protect each other and slow the spread by notifying you if you've likely been exposed to COVID-19. Empowering you to quarantine effectively, seek timely medical attention, and reduce risk for your loved ones. Click here for more info and share it with your networks.
REVIEW LATEST CDC GUIDANCE: Recently, the CDC updated its definition of "close contact." Click here to review the latest guidance and help us make sure other Nevadans and Nevada businesses have this critical information.
CONDUCT SCREENINGS: Click here for a comprehensive list of downloadable screening documents for gatherings and businesses in both English and Spanish.
STAY HOME IF SICK OR EXPOSED: Telework as much as possible -- if employees can do their jobs from home, have them do so for the next two weeks. If employees have to be in the workspace, they need to be masked up at all times and meetings should be done virtually from individual offices instead of in conference rooms or shared spaces.
We know one of the reasons we are experiencing large scale community spread is because people are not quarantining or staying home when they feel sick or if they've been knowingly exposed. We will be pushing out new messaging on this soon. For now, please encourage your networks to stay home and avoid contact with others if:
Have recently tested positive for COVID-19 and are currently in the isolation period.
Are currently waiting on the results of a COVID-19 test.
You are sick, have any respiratory infection symptoms, or any COVID-19 symptoms.
Any household member has COVID-19, is exhibiting respiratory infection symptoms, or any COVID-19 symptoms.
You have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 and are currently in the quarantine period.
You believe to have been recently exposed or come into contact with a COVID-19 case.
We cannot underscore the severity of our current situation. Please continue to share all public health best practices and mitigation measures with your networks. Additionally, we ask that you help us share the severity of our current situation and the need for everyone to play their part.
