Today, civic participation occurs at many levels. We make impactful decisions about our community every time we make a purchase, vote, post on social media and, of course, volunteer. We think any awareness we can bring to the many resources that might spur individual action for good, falls right in line with what we’re up to at HandsOn.

National Women's History Month

March is National Women's History Month! Originally this celebration was set to only be one week-long in correspondence with March 8th, International Women's Day. In 1995, the National Women's History Alliance worked hard to get Public Law 100-9 passed by Congress to have March be named National Women's History Month by President Clinton and each president that came after.

Here's how to celebrate Women's History around the valley all month long:

Tomorrow, March 4th, Glendale is hosting the 23rd annual Women's Day Out Expo that features the latest brands in fashion and beauty made by women for women
On March 10th, listen to women sharing their experiences of navigating male-dominated fields in tech and the trades at Career Jump Start for Women hosted by Fresh Start Women's Foundation
Or come out to the International Women's Day Celebration on March 11th in Chandler
Attend Women's National History Month Book Talk: Poems from the Asylum on March 26th at Tempe Public Library. One lucky winner in attendance will receive a free copy of the book

National Lifeguard Shortage

Help Keep Phoenix Pools Open this Summer

The City of Phoenix is looking for lifeguards for the 2023 pool season! In 2022, only 14 of the city's 29 pools were able to open due to the lack of lifeguards. To be a lifeguard you must be at least 15 years old and have completed all required training.

HandsOn History

About 2 years ago today, HandsOn Greater Phoenix worked to man 8 vaccination sites to support the community through immunity. The Vaccinate State 48 efforts administered 1.6 million vaccine doses and HandsOn was able to provide 27,370 volunteers and 187,745 volunteer hours toward the cause. Thank you to everyone who helped during this time of need!
