We are so excited to welcome the Enamelist Society’s juried exhibition, “Alchemy 6: Transformations in Contemporary Enamels”! Nearly 130 beautiful objects, sculpture, wall works and jewelry pieces by 90 artists—professional and students—will be on display. Among the student artists chosen is Grant Turner, who graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2022; his prizewinning brooch, Breakfast Bike, combines his interests in both digital and studio art. He draws inspiration from surrealism, pop art and absurdism to create work that is “surrounded by a wacky and mysterious aura.”

A reception will be held at the museum on Saturday, February 11, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. At noon, metals artist Rachel Smith will give a gallery talk on the art and process of enameling. We hope to see you in the museum for this exciting exhibition!

The Best of 2023

Celebrating its 40th year, the “Best of…,” ODC’s annual juried members’ exhibition, is regarded as one of Ohio’s best presentations of fine craft, and features established and emerging artists working in all fine craft media. This year, ODC will present over $9000 in juror-selected artist awards. We are excited to announce that both the Challenge Award and the Yassenoff Family Award for Excellence have increased to $2000!

This year’s juror is Steve Smith, who taught at the School of Art and Design at Defiance College for over 30 years before retiring in 2011. An accomplished ceramics artist, he has exhibited in numerous regional and national exhibitions; his work can be seen in private and corporate collections across the country.

The exhibition will be presented at the Ohio Craft Museum May 7–July 8, then travel to the Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert, Ohio.

Functional Ceramics Workshop

April 14–15, 2023

Don’t miss this year’s workshop with two outstanding artists and presenters: Sunshine Cobb, Montana, and Michael Kline, North Carolina. Yes, just two presenters this year. How could a third artist compete with these two?!

Held at the Wayne Center for the Arts in Wooster, the workshop will feature demonstrations and visual presentations by both artists. The $170 registration fee ($70 for students) includes 2 box lunches. NEW this year: Friday’s dinner is optional and is not included in the registration fee. You must register for dinner separately.

The dinner will be fantastic (and will not include potatoes)! Local Roots is catering the dinner, which will be chicken parmesan and a second entrée, plus salad, rolls and cookies! It will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wooster. We hope you consider attending dinner—it’s such a nice gathering for participants, workshop leaders, volunteers and ODC staff! A free reception will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023.
