"I've never seen lovelier grapes in all my life."
- Helmut Dönnhoff on the 2018 Vintage (Vinous)

If anyone knows the Nahe region, it is the Dönnhoff family. They arrived in the area over 250 years ago and their winemaking legacy started in the 1920s with patriarch, Hermann, who established the estate. Now on their fourth generation, the name Dönnhoff is synonymous with high-quality, age-worthy, stunningly delicious Riesling.

The beautiful wines we offer today tap into that rich history, while also including something new, Dönnhoff's debut botting from the famous Grand Cru site of Niederhäuser Klamm! Read on for the full story on both of these beauties, then quickly click the Big Yellow Button to add them to your cellar!

2018 Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Klamm Riesling Kabinett
Nahe, Germany
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When a century old legend like Dönnhoff acquires a Grand Cru parcel in Nahe, lovers of brilliant white wine wait with bated breath. Well, the debut wine is here, and it is gorgeous!
"What an auspicious debut!"
- David Schildknecht, June 2020
The 2018 Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Klamm Riesling Kabinett is rich, complex and alive with energy. Wine Advocate and Vinous have already taken a major shine...
"'I had a tiny share of Klamm for many years,' noted Dönnhoff, but it went into our Gutsriesling.' After acquiring a second parcel, he replanted it, and those vines have only been in production for a few years. Then an old-vines holding in this estimable Einzellage was acquired from Luisa von Racknitz, at which point, in 2017, a significant share of Klamm fruit was shunted into Dönnhoff's off-dry Gutsriesling. Now, for the first time, the Dönnhoffs have essayed a dedicated bottling. Nut extracts and pit-inflected white peach make for a bittersweet cast, while the richness and succulence of fruit displayed on a buoyant, silken palate is enlivened by a squeeze of fresh lime. Smoky, stony and mouthwateringly saline nuances delightfully complicate the luscious, seductively sustained finish of this delectable gem. What an auspicious debut! Drinking Window: 2020 - 2032."
- 93 Points, Vinous - David Schildknecht (6/2020)
"From a one-hectare plot with younger vines on porphyry soils, the 2018 Niederhäuser Klamm Riesling Kabinett is open, bright and fresh on the nose, with ripe fruit but also remarkable smokiness, elegance and polished character. Lush and round but crystalline and fresh on the palate, this is a charmingly elegant and fruity Kabinett with frisky salinity on the finish and nice mineral grip. Very attractive and fresh. Tasted in July 2019. Drink Date: 2020 - 2030."
- 92 Points, Wine Advocate (10/17/2019)
2018 Dönnhoff Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese
Nahe, Germany
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While the soils of Niederhäuser Klamm consist of porphyry and loam, Norheimer Kirschheck features slate and sandstone. That minerality comes through loud and clear in the 2018 Dönnhoff Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese.

The oldest vineyards in the Nahe are in this area. The steep slopes (25-55%) make the vines work hard, and that results in wonderfully dense, complex character in the fruit. A bit riper and richer than the Kabinett, this Spätlese is another critical darling, and it screams for some cellar age before you drink it with your favorite sushi...

"Ripe pear is garlanded in buddleia and mint on a fetching nose that also features a whiff of wet stone. The palate impression is succulently fruity and caressingly polished. Liquid florality seductively enhances a lusciously lingering finish that is enlivened by a squeeze of fresh lime. Drinking Window: 2020 - 2032."
- 92 Points, Vinous - David Schildknecht (6/2020)

"The 2018 Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese is clear, fresh and flinty on the deep nose, where ripe stone fruit (vineyard peach), raspberry and crushed stone aromas are displayed. Round and salty-piquant on the palate, this is a racy, terribly fresh and stimulating Spätlese whose acidity is really kicking and racy enough to balance this ripe and almost voluptuous wine with ease and joy. A classic. Tasted in July 2019. Drink Date: 2022 - 2038."
- 92 Points, Wine Advocate (10/17/2019)
