Dear Hendrick Hudson Families:
The fall season is upon us, and I’m happy to report that in our district there is an undeniable feeling of being back in the swing of things. In addition to the excitement of having everyone back in all five school buildings, it’s been wonderful to see our students resume their favorite activities outside of the classroom, whether it is music, art, theater, athletics, or any of the district’s many extra-curricular activities.

This week, we have made updates to our School Reopening FAQ, based on recent information provided by the Westchester County Department of Health. Updates are primarily related to topics within the first section of the FAQ: Quarantining, Contact Tracing and COVID-19 Testing. These entries have been time-stamped to reflect revisions, and we have also posted the full DOH document at the top of the FAQ.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released new mask guidance. Click here to read some helpful do’s and don’ts related to face masks, based on the new information. Please note that if your child forgets to bring a mask to school, one will be provided.

We recently posted a link on our website for a survey regarding students’ access to digital resources at home. The New York State Education Department is interested in collecting this data, and we ask that you complete the brief survey by November 1. Click here for more details and a link to the survey.

On the COVID-19 Resources Page page of the district website, we have added a section for documenting reported COVID-19 cases at our schools. When a school learns of a positive case, families in that particular school community will receive email notification. The school will directly contact anyone who needs to quarantine, as per Department of Health protocol. The district will then publish a tally of those cases that involve exposures at school. We will begin populating the page on Monday. Click here for the direct link.

As our state and federal officials begin a new legislative season, we are asking your help in advocating for the repeal of the $10,000 SALT deduction cap. Click here for more details and the link to a ready-made advocacy letter that only takes a moment to send.

Finally, every year, the Athletic Department inducts alumni into its venerable Hall of Fame, with a ceremony typically held during the high school’s Homecoming football game. This year, Athletic Director Tom Baker is proud to announce that inductees will be drawn from those in our community who have been working hard to keep our district safe, healthy and protected. Among the 2021 inductees are local fire companies, police departments and ambulance corps. Click here to see the full list, and please join us for the ceremony on October 1 at 7:00 p.m. on the high school track.

Wishing you a wonderful first weekend of fall.

Joseph Hochreiter
Superintendent
