Dear Family and Friends of South Cove Manor:
This morning, I sent you all an email with an update on our testing results from swabs that were gathered over the past several days. In that communication, I had indicated that we were waiting on results from 19 swabs. We have received those results, and unfortunately, there were 2 staff members that were identified as being positive for COVID-19.
Both staff members have been notified, and both are asymptomatic. Provided that they remain asymptomatic, they will be restricted from work for 14 days from the date of their test. If they do develop symptoms, their exclusion from work will be adjusted based on their recovery from symptoms.
One of the staff members is a nurse that works on the First floor, and the other staff member is a C.N.A. that works on the third floor. Since we learned of this news a short time ago, we have implemented several steps:
- All residents that were deemed to be in close contact with either of the two positive cases were swabbed today. I anticipate having results in less than 48 hours.
- In addition, those residents will be required to quarantine in their rooms for 14 days.
-
In person visitation for all 1st floor and 3rd floor residents are now canceled for 14 days. Virtual visits continue to be an option for all.
- Communal dining on both the first and third floors has been stopped for 14 days
- All residents in the building will be swabbed this Thursday.
I am confident that that positive case we had identified last week did NOT infect either of these two newly positive staff members. At no point where any of these three people in contact with each other. What that indicates to me, is that our Infection Control protocols are effective in containing the virus. What that also indicates to me, is that each of these three cases originated outside of South Cove Manor, from three completely separate sources. That fact alone should serve as a reminder that this virus is not going away anytime soon, and that we ALL must remain diligent in our fight against it. We cannot let our guard down at any time. The entire South Cove Manor staff is working incredibly hard to keep our residents, and each other safe.
I will continue to provide you updates related to testing results as soon as I have information to share.
Thank you again for placing your trust in South Cove Manor.
