Thanks to all of you across California who attended the Manager Virtual Hall Meeting in July. As stakeholders in CACM, I think it’s vital to share the state of our organization with you in a bottom-line, fact-based candid conversation.

I’m intimately familiar with the challenges you face as managers in normal conditions. Now we have to factor in working from home, caring for and homeschooling kids, property inspections, board packets for virtual meetings and constant unreasonable complaints from residents who are also always at home. You’re doing all of this while balancing your P&L when assessments might be lower than normal because of COVID-19-related layoffs. Ugh.

The need to pivot
Yet, here you are, staying professional and positive and making it all work. You’re not reacting. You’re pivoting in response to the current conditions. I recognize that, as I’m sure your company leadership does, too.

CACM is also pivoting. Our pre-registered attendance for the Regional Fall Forums normally is around a couple hundred managers by now, but to date we have 14. The High Rise and Large Scale Summits usually have 60 registered attendees by now. Currently, we have 7. So, like you, in response to a challenge, we don’t react. We pivot.

If you were on the Virtual Town Hall Meeting, you had the opportunity to preview a virtual CACM world that we are exploring, where we can hold numerous events, large expos and Law Seminars, small or large. It’s not our preference, but it’s a necessary adjustment to the current social challenges. Watch for more information. If we roll this out, we will of course make it fun!

Adjusting to our new normal
Let’s not kid ourselves here. Let’s be real about this situation. Social distancing, whether we like it or not or agree with it or not, either by mandate or simple individual choice, is likely to be around for the foreseeable future. So, we all pivot to accommodate our clients, our teams and our lives. It’s what we do. We’re community managers! We adjust to the circumstances the same as we would when dealing with a flood in our building or neighborhood fire.

Listen, I know it’s a challenge in this new norm. There are days that I, too, want that 10:00 AM cocktail. But you’re in this career for a reason. You’re good at what you do. You multi-task with the best of them. You juggle many things, managing personal and professional worlds at the same time.
Why? Because you know how to pivot. Because you ROCK! Keep rocking!
