Two LSC Faculty Recognized at the Minnesota State Board of Trustees 2022 Awards for Excellence
Lake Superior College’s Lindsy Mason O’Brien and Brian Bich were recognized at the Minnesota State Board of Trustees 2022 Awards for Excellence, a system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement of our college and university teaching and service faculty.

Lindsy Mason O’Brien, English, received a 2022 Educator of the Year Award for her devotion to her students and her talent for involving them in their learning. She encourages students to explore content that is meaningful to them and to experience the power of writing and communication in making change happen. Watch video.
Brian Bich, biology, received a 2022 Outstanding Educator Award. Appreciated for his teaching style and welcoming learning environment, Bich engages students with memorable real-life examples and other approaches to help them master complex material and creates learning resources for them.

LSC's Business Professionals of America Students Advance to National Competition in Dallas
Students from Lake Superior College attended the Business Professionals of America (BPA) 2022 State Leadership Conference at Dakota County Technical College on February 25, 2022. LSC chapter members Mercedes Suedbeck, Brooklen Middendorf, Julian Moe, McKenzie Kowarsch, and Jasmine Malone joined other conference delegates from across the state to participate in general sessions and competitive events. Their advisor, Lori Yecoshenko, accompanied the students.

Students who placed in the top five of individual events or in the top two of team events are eligible to attend the National Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas, May 4-8, 2022. Read the full story to see the list of qualifying students and their events.

Great Turnout for Last Week's Aviation Open House
Thank you to everyone who attended Lake Superior College’s Aviation Open House last week to learn more about both LSC’s professional pilot program and the aviation maintenance program. What an awesome turnout! We’re working on some exciting updates and partnerships to help grow and enhance the programs, as workforce needs continue to grow too. We’ll be sharing some exciting news in the near future about the programs.
LSC To Hold Spring Open House at Main Campus, Friday, May 6
Lake Superior College's Spring Open House will be held Friday, May 6, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Prospective students, friends and family members are all invited to tour LSC's beautiful main campus to learn about our 90+ programs and visit labs used for hands-on career and technical programs like automotive, cybersecurity and nursing, and more. Students interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree can start here and save thousands by completing their generals at Lake Superior College and then take advantage of our many transfer pathways.   • Summer Camps and Career Exploration for youth ages 12-18 start in June. Offerings include Computer Aided Design/SolidWorks + Revit, GenCyber Intro, Robotics and Welding. The camps are free and space is limited. More at lsc.edu/camps.

  • Evening Math Tutoring with a professional math tutor Nancy Ziegler is available online, with no appointments necessary. Just drop in via Zoom, Wednesdays and Thursdays, between 3:30 and 8:30 p.m. Learn more about Nancy and find the Zoom link at lsc.edu/MathTutorPM.

  • As part of LSC's Computer User Support course, students are offering tech support on your personal (non-LSC) laptop between 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays in room T170. Available through May 1. Contact shawn.mitchell@lsc.edu with questions.

  • Lake Superior College invites you to the 2022 Spring Student Art Show where more than 200 students enrolled in LSC’s popular art courses will display their artwork in the categories of Drawings, Paintings, Ceramics, Sculpture, Metal Art and Jewelry, Watercolors, Digital Photography and Digital Paintings. Some items will also be priced for sale. The show takes place at LSC’s main concourse and runs 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2 through 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4.   • Stress Less Days are planned for May 2-5, with a variety of offerings to promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Activities include chair massages, visits from mini ponies, yoga, coffee and conversation and more. View the schedule.

  • You are invited to the LSC Spring Choir Concert on Thursday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m., in the LSC Commons. Special guests are the Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College Choir.

  • Applications are being accepted for the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program to start Fall Semester 2022. There is a critical personnel shortage for medical laboratory technicians, with significant sign-on bonuses being offered locally and regionally. The application is open until filled.   • Physical Therapist Assistant applications are open for Fall 2022. Apply online at lsc.edu/ApplyToPTA

  • Applications for the Respiratory Therapy program to start Fall Semester 2022 are being accepted now until filled. Apply at lsc.edu/RespiratoryTherapy.
