Ten Minutes! That’s how long it takes for the temperatures inside a vehicle to rise 20 degrees. For children in particular, this increase is enough to result in death. There are steps to help prevent your child from being a statistic.
Stick to a routine to avoid distractions which will help reduce the risk of forgetting a child in your car. Keep car doors locked so children cannot gain access and teach them that cars are not play areas. Place a purse or a briefcase or even your shoe in the back seat to force you to take one last glance.
Never leave your child alone in a car, not even for a minute. If you see a child alone in a car, call 911. #LookBeforeYouLock
We also want your child to be safe while riding in your car. Car seats and boosters provide protection for infants and children in a crash. That is why it is so important to correctly use the right car seat every time your child is in the car. Follow these steps to help you find the right car seat, install it correctly, and keep your child safe:
- Learn about the four car seat types
- Follow the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) car seat recommendations based on your child’s age and size
- Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for installation
- Get your car seat inspected
- Register your car seat and sign up for recall notifications to receive safety updates
You can find all of this information and more at nhtsa.gov/equipment/car-seats-and-booster-seats. You can also watch short videos that show you how to properly install your car seat as well as the recommendations for your child’s age and size.

The weather forecast based on a trash can wind meter? Yep, that's spring-time in Texas. During days of high winds, full trash cans are easily knocked over spilling the contents onto the road. This becomes a hazard for those driving in the neighborhood and makes it difficult for CWD to service our City. When you place your trash and recycling at the curb, please be mindful of the weather and make every effort to place your cans so they can't easily tip over. Once CWD has serviced your bins, if you are able, please bring them back to your house to keep them out of the street. We all know empty trash bins will easily tip over.

DCTA Wants to Hear From You!
|
|
Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) is updating fare and service models to better meet the transportation needs of the public and encourage multimodal trips in Denton County.
The goals of these updates are to redesign DCTA’s fixed routes to better serve our riders and configure the GoZone service to better integrate with fixed route. Several potential fare models will be assessed as well - from a flat fare to a distance-based fare and including a hybrid fare model. DCTA wants to encourage efficient trips that get people where they want to go, when they want to go and for a fare that makes sense. DCTA riders represent a diverse community with a variety of needs. Finding the right mix of service and fare options is critical to everyone.
Beginning Monday, April 18, a series of public meetings will be held in person and virtually. Dates, times and locations of in-person meetings will be communicated once they are scheduled. The meetings provide an opportunity to speak with individual DCTA staff members and other attendees to better understand the options and share feedback. Virtual Town Hall Meetings are scheduled for the following days:
- Noon, Friday, April 29
- 6 p.m., Thursday, May 5
- 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 10
Staff will also be available to take comments at community outreach events, online at dctafeedback.net, and by survey. Public feedback will be presented to the board this summer for consideration. The public comment period wraps up on Tuesday, May 17.
For a presentation during the public comment period or for special accommodations due to a disability, language translation needs and to request printed copies of information discussed, contact Mary Worthington at least 72 hours prior to the meeting at 972-316-6121 or email mworthington@dcta.net.
More information, including a schedule of events, will be available online at dctafeedback.net beginning Monday, April 18. The public comment period runs through Tuesday, May 17.
