Dear Families,

Last week, our Board of Trustees approved the High Needs Hybrid Phase of the MBUSD Reopening Plan. The High Needs Hybrid is designed to provide our students with specialized instruction through a combination of distance learning and in-person services. These initial cohorts will begin at Manhattan Beach Preschool, Pennekamp, Meadows and Pacific. We have notified approximately 35 families that their child is eligible to be included in one of the initial High Needs Hybrid Cohorts.

While our team is thrilled to start with these initial cohorts, we realize that that you have questions related to health and safety measures as well as questions as to how we will gradually add High Needs Cohorts to all school campuses.

While not all students are part of the initial High Needs Hybrid cohorts, our goal is to gradually add cohorts with health and safety as our number one priority. Here is a link to the safety protocols we have in place for the in-person assessments and high needs hybrid programs that we plan to have back. These protocols will be implemented as we form additional High Needs Hybrid cohorts to support our learners who are having the most difficulty accessing their education through distance learning.

This week, I am meeting with special educators to finalize the criteria for forming additional cohorts at the elementary level. Additionally, our secondary sites are continuing to plan for their initial cohorts.

Thank you for your continued partnership throughout this difficult time. Our entire team looks forward to welcoming all of our students back on campus. As we continue our planning, I will provide weekly updates on our progress.

Sincerely,
Irene Gonzalez-Castillo, Ed.D.
