Please join us for a fascinating presentation by Rabbi Shelly Lewis when he talks about his service as a chaplain in Vietnam, during that war, and his subsequent reconciliation work inspired by his experience. A prolific author and scholar, until retirement, Rabbi Lewis was the long-serving Senior Rabbi at Congregation Kol Emeth in Palo Alto. We are honored to have him join us for this event. The event is open to both members and non-members.

Temple Sisterhood will be selling Mah Jongg cards again for 2023 - the League has raised the cost per card to $14.00 for the standard card and $15.00 for the large card.   Please send your checks directly to Temple Emanu-El (1010 University Ave, San Jose, 95126) with check made out to Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood.

Set in London of the 1660s and of the early twenty-first century, The Weight of Ink is the interwoven tale of two women of remarkable intellect: Ester Velasquez, an emigrant from Amsterdam who is permitted to scribe for a blind rabbi, just before the plague hits the city; and Helen Watt, an ailing historian with a love of Jewish history.

The service starts at 7pm and will be followed by a "chocolate-themed" Oneg (yum!). Rabbi Magat will also be giving a special blessing for all of the new members attending the service. CRASH COURSE ON THE HISTORY OF ISRAEL

A 5-part Zoom course, on 5 Sunday mornings from 10-11:30 AM PST that runs from Jan 8-Feb 12. Sessions provide the history of Jews and Arabs in the land of Israel and the evolution of the current Israeli/Palestinian conflict. You can register even the course has begun. Sessions are recorded so if you miss a session, you can view it later. The course is sponsored, without charge, by the Contra Costa JCC.
