ISRI’s safety resources are among its most valuable membership benefits because they truly can make the difference between safety or injury and catastrophe in recycling operations.
ISRI’s safety resources cover the gamut, including training programs, written guidance, on-site services, networking opportunities, and more. You can review the range of ISRI’s safety resources anytime at this link, but here are a few you might not know:
■ Recommended Industry Safety Practices (RISPs):ISRI offers guidance that can help you establish effective safety management practices in your operations. The guidance covers a range of topics, including confined spaces, fire prevention, hazard communication, housekeeping, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, personal protective equipment, visitor safety controls, and more.
■ DOT Self-Audit Checklist: This checklist is designed to help you comply with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations. This self-audit can help you identify opportunities to improve your fleet's (or you motor carrier’s) overall safety performance and safety management controls. As a best practice, ISRI recommends that you perform the audit in portions, over a two-to-three-day period and that you conduct the self-audit annually.
■ ISRI Safety Data Sheets Program: ISRI members can order safety data sheets (SDSs) and labels for various processed scrap commodities from ChemADVISOR Inc. The SDSs come with your company’s name printed on the documents, ensuring your downstream customers that the material came from you. You also can have your company’s logo printed on the SDSs.
