Welcome to the New School Year at CCPC
First Day is Monday!
Dear Parents,

Seeing all of you, but most especially the children, at this week's Visiting Days was incredibly inspiring. When it became clear in late spring that the pandemic would not be ending anytime soon, we immediately set our hearts and minds on the ambitious goal of re-opening safely in person for our families. It has been a long summer with many twists and turns as we considered and adapted to all that would be required, but here we are, poised for the first day of school at last!

Your belief in our school, with its incredibly dedicated teachers and strong community, is deeply appreciated. While this year is different than any that has come before, the important things are unchanged. As always, your child will walk into their classroom and be enveloped in the CCPC culture of Resilience, Creativity, Exploration, Kindness, and Community.

As you know, we closely monitor area COVID infection data and will continue to do so. Currently, the city is holding steady with positivity rates consistently well below the 5% benchmark set by CDC. If this trend can be sustained over time, we will move to Phase 3 guidance.

Important Reminder: current DC health forms including up-to-date immunizations are a MUST to begin school on Monday.

Although this is not the time for sitting together side by side on the sofa in my office, I encourage you to pick up the phone and call me anytime. I always love talking about our very special children at CCPC!

With a full heart and in anticipation of a wonderful year of learning,

Noni

Visiting Days
 Thanks for Visiting!

It was so wonderful to have children in the building again! They did such a great job wearing their masks and exploring their new classrooms. The positive energy was palpable!

Mask wearing will evolve as children adapt and get accustomed to this new norm. We will continue to encourage proper mask wearing for all ages as feasible and developmentally appropriate for each individual child.
Sprinting to the Start Line
Our teachers have attended numerous staff meetings to review our Health and Safety protocols, sent emails to parents, prepared their classrooms for the first day of school, developed lesson plans, and are finishing 21 hours of continuing education training. This year's Back to School Teacher Book Club included a full training session on "Theories of Childhood" taught by our own Stephanie Schaefer, who is also an Early Childhood trainer approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.

Playground Nears Completion!
Last Hurrah for Mud Play!
Bring Your Boots
Next week may be our last opportunity to play in the mud! Boots are a MUST until the playground sod and mulch are in place and ready for foot traffic. Having boots at school is always a good idea throughout the year, although our new drainage plan should eliminate lake-size puddles in the future.
Our beautiful renovation project is almost complete. When we closed in March, the playground project was scheduled for completion in May, 2020 with a majority of the work scheduled for our April spring break. Sadly, the project was delayed as the DC government process for approvals at the Department of Energy and the Environment came to a grinding halt in the midst of the public health crisis. We were unable to work until inspections were completed on site for our sediment control plans as developed by a civil engineering firm.

The process was successfully finalized and approved recently and work is again underway for a September completion. Thanks for your patience.

We look forward to providing an engaging, beautiful, nature-inspired play space for your children and many nursery school and after school program participants for years to come!
