National DEC Presents at the Children Matters International Conference

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, World Federation Against Drugs, and Fourth Wave Foundation organized the ‘Children Matter – Right to a Drug Free Childhood’ conference November, 2022.

The goals of the event where to:

  • Establishing the need to create Substance Abuse Free Environments for children around the world (Article 33 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child - UNCRC).
  • Advocating the relevance of primary prevention in national drug policies to protect children.
  • Domesticating the recommendations of the United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) with children as a priority and sharing best practices.
  • Endorse the simple fact that children and our future matter and that we are called to invest in the priceless wealth that good health and happiness bring to every home in every community, in every nation.

National DEC was invited to sponsor and offer a virtual presentation to 300 participants from 60 nations about DEC efforts and best practices in the United States as an encouragement to consider similar initiatives on behalf of children and families. It was also an opportunity to connect and build advocacy with US agencies on behalf of all those carrying out DEC efforts nationally. The presentation was very well received. National DEC wants everyone involved in DEC efforts to know that what you do makes a difference here in the US and provides encouragement to those in other countries to put children first.
