Single Lot Erosion Control Permitting
It has been three years since the NC Dept. of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) changed land disturbance permit requirements for single lots. This month’s newsletter will recap the changes associated with the 2019 rule change and include links to Wake County resources and FAQs to assist customers with the permitting process.

All builders and developers of single family dwellings in a subdivision are required to have a land disturbance permit, even if the disturbance is less than 1 acre. When applying for a permit, keep in mind the following:

  • Lot(s) can be covered by a permit for many or all lots (Permit type: SEC-Subdivision)
  • Example: Tract builder(s)
  • Lot(s) can be covered by a permit for multiple lots (Permit type: Individual Lot)
  • Example: Multiple builders each with multiple lots
  • Lot can be covered by a permit for one lot (Permit type: Individual Lot)
  • Example: Individual permit for one lot

The County may also ask for a permit for lots in older subdivisions or a rural lot with over 1 acre of disturbance OR if the lot has environmental features needing erosion control measures such as steeps slopes or riparian buffers.
And remember, ALL Wake County issued land disturbance permits must also have a corresponding NCG01 permit issued by NCDEQ.

Additional information and FAQs are available on the Residential Lot Erosion and Sediment Control webpage or by visiting www.wakegov.com and searching Residential Lot Erosion and Sediment Control.
