Dear LNC Families,

Last evening the LNC Board of Education convened its November meeting. Many items were discussed and the school plan was again revisited. To watch the meeting in its entirety, click here.

One important meeting item to share is that LNC’s Safe Return to School committee recommended the school continue to operate under hybrid learning (plan B) and the Board voted to accept this recommendation. This decision was based on a review of local health data, the Governor’s recommendation and other critical decision factors such as students’ social emotional wellbeing in our current hybrid learning environment, stakeholder opinions, substitute teacher availability and data from LNC.  LNC staff and administration were recognized by the Board for their continued adaptability and willingness to skillfully execute the decisions made by the Board even under difficult circumstances. Here is the presentation the committee shared with the Board.

The committee will continue to monitor all decision factors, including any changes on guidelines from the state level; the state’s current phase 3 designation expires November 13. The committee will also survey the staff and parent stakeholders later this month so we have updated stakeholder feedback to consider at the December board meeting. The ultimate goal is a full return to in-person learning as soon as it is deemed safe.

Extensive information related to hybrid learning can be found on our website under the COVID-19 channel at the top of the homepage. This information includes our health and safety protocols, our hybrid learning plan, an FAQ, our COVID-19 dashboard and more. There is also an FAQ questionnaire if you do not see the answer to your questions.

In other Board meeting news, information related to midterms, the service requirement and Leadership in Action at the high school were shared and recommended changes to the 2020-2021 school calendar were voted upon.

2020-2021 Changes in Response to COVID-19

  • Out of an understanding of impacts to instruction this fall, midterm exams at the high school will not be administered. Semester 1 grades will be calculated with quarter 1 counting for 50% and quarter 2 counting for 50%.
  • Due to safety concerns potentially associated with volunteering, the high school student service requirement of 10 hours/year is waived for the 2020-2021 school year only.
  • To preserve as much instructional time as possible, we will not designate any days to Leadership in Action at the high school. This should have minimal impact to the class of 2021 as all of the seniors should have completed their Leadership in Action work. Those seniors who have not completed the LiA program will be contacted personally to provide an opportunity to complete their work prior to graduation. We hope to be able to return to our regular LiA program next year. Program adjustments resulting from the impacts on LiA this year will be made to the requirements.
  • On Monday, November 23, Monday, December 21 and Tuesday, December 22 students K-12 will follow a remote learning schedule. Here are the updated Cohort calendars:
  • On Tuesday, January 26 freshmen, sophomores, seniors and any junior who does not sign up for the PSAT will work asynchronously from home to allow us to safely administer the PSAT. All juniors are strongly encouraged to take the PSAT and should sign up/pay here. No students at the MS or ES are affected by this change.
  • On Tuesday, February 23 freshmen and seniors will work asynchronously from home to allow us to safely administer the ACT (juniors) and the PreACT (sophomores). No sign up is required for either of these tests. No students at the MS or ES are affected by this change.

Thank you for your continued support.
